Actor Ishaan Khatter has received an honorary membership with the 45 Cavalry Regiment of the Indian Armoured Corps, a recognition stemming from his portrayal of Captain Balram Singh Mehta in the war film Pippa. This distinction celebrates the actor’s authentic representation of a 45 Cavalry officer, underscoring his respect for the regiment’s esteemed traditions and rich legacy.
In a heartfelt message shared on social media, Khatter referred to the honor as "the honour of a lifetime" and expressed his profound gratitude to the regiment for embracing him as part of its extended community. Accompanying his words were photographs and videos from the ceremony that marked this significant occasion.
The commemorative plaque awarded to Khatter highlighted his authentic depiction of a 45 Cavalry officer in Pippa and recognized his deep respect for the regiment’s ethos. The plaque prominently featured the regiment’s motto, "Veer Bhogya Vasundhara," which translates to "the brave shall inherit the earth," resonating with the values upheld by the 45 Cavalry.
Pippa, directed by Raja Krishna Menon, draws inspiration from Brigadier Balram Singh Mehta’s memoir, The Burning Chaffees. The film focuses on the pivotal role played by the 45 Cavalry Regiment during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971, particularly the Battle of Garibpur, which significantly contributed to the liberation of Bangladesh.
In the film, Khatter stars as Captain Balram Singh Mehta, supported by an ensemble cast that includes Mrunal Thakur, Priyanshu Painyuli, and Soni Razdan. The title Pippa pays homage to the Soviet-origin PT-76 amphibious tank that was utilized by the 45 Cavalry Regiment during the 1971 conflict, symbolizing the bravery and resilience of the soldiers involved.
