KNDS Deutschland has secured a significant contract to produce 48 Boxer vehicles for the German Armed Forces, valued at 352 million euros (approximately $409 million). The contract includes the delivery of 38 heavily protected Boxer ambulances and 10 driver training vehicles, along with an option for additional procurements that could encompass 150 more ambulances and 100 driver training vehicles.
Scheduled deliveries are set to begin in early 2028, marking a crucial step in enhancing the capabilities of the German military’s medical and training operations. This order is part of a larger framework agreement worth 4.5 billion euros ($5.25 billion) aimed at supplying a total of 270 Boxer vehicles to both Germany and the Netherlands.
KNDS will carry out the contract as a subcontractor to ARTEC, the original equipment manufacturer of the Boxer. ARTEC is a collaborative venture between KNDS Deutschland and Rheinmetall Landsysteme, which allows for shared expertise in the production of these advanced military vehicles.
The Boxer ambulance stands out as a vital component in the medical rescue chain. It is designed to provide essential pre-hospital medical care to casualties and can be equipped with a variable mission module to accommodate multiple patients based on the severity of their injuries. Moreover, the ambulance variant offers the same high levels of protection for its crew as the Boxer infantry variant, which is crucial for safety during operational missions.
In addition to the ambulances, the Boxer driver training vehicle serves an essential role in preparing military personnel to operate the Boxer. Exclusively utilized for training purposes during peacetime, it replicates the driving characteristics and overall weight of other Boxer models, thereby allowing for seamless transitions for drivers moving to operational variants without the need for additional familiarization. This approach streamlines training processes and ensures that personnel are well-prepared for their roles in the field.
