In a significant counter-terrorism operation in Rajouri back in September 2023, LN Rajesh Kumar exhibited remarkable bravery as he engaged terrorists in close quarters, alongside his canine companion, K9 Kent. Despite sustaining multiple bullet injuries during the fierce confrontation, he demonstrated unwavering commitment to the mission, ultimately leading to its successful completion. For his extraordinary gallantry and steadfast resolve under fire, he was bestowed the Sena Medal for his valour.
K9 Kent, his dedicated canine partner, showcased unparalleled bravery throughout the operation, a testament to the deep bond between soldiers and their four-legged companions. Tragically, K9 Kent lost his life in the line of duty, and in recognition of his valiant service, was posthumously awarded a Mention-in-Despatches, reflecting the Indian Army’s tradition of celebrating acts of bravery regardless of the individual’s species.
Currently, LN Rajesh Kumar continues to uphold the highest standards of military service as he adapts to the evolving landscape of modern warfare. He is now engaged in an innovative deployment with a trained raptor named “Arjun,” as part of the Indian Army’s anti-drone program. This pioneering initiative employs birds of prey to neutralize hostile drones in sensitive areas, showcasing the Army’s forward-thinking approach to combat emerging aerial threats by integrating traditional execution with contemporary tactical needs.
