Lieutenant General Sumer Ivan D’Cunha, the Director General and Colonel Commandant of the Army Air Defence (AAD), conducted a significant visit to the Air Defence units of the 33rd Armoured Division, also known as the “Dot On Target” Division. The visit was marked by comprehensive discussions focusing on the current and emerging operational environment, the evolving aerial threats faced by the military, and strategies for effective mitigation.
During his visit, Lt Gen D’Cunha praised the personnel for their exemplary training standards and their innovative methodologies aimed at achieving operational excellence. His commendation reflects a recognition of the hard work and dedication of all ranks involved in air defence operations.
In his recent statements, Lt Gen D’Cunha has notably stressed the escalating importance of counter-drone strategies in today’s warfare landscape. Drawing on insights from recent global conflicts, he emphasized the urgent need for advanced surveillance systems capable of detecting smaller drones, alongside the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to navigate the complexities presented by modern air threats.

The AAD is actively pursuing enhancements to its defensive posture, which includes the acquisition of Low-Level Light Weight Radars (LLLR) and smart ammunition. Plans are also in motion to induct new indigenous anti-aircraft guns as replacements for outdated systems, showcasing the Corps’ unwavering commitment to modernization and self-reliance in the face of evolving challenges.

The 33rd Armoured Division, stationed at Hisar Military Station, is a pivotal component of India’s defence strategy.
