Lieutenant General VMB Krishnan, PVSM, AVSM, YSM has officially taken on the role of General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C) of the Eastern Command, a significant leadership position within the Indian Army.
Lt Gen Krishnan boasts a distinguished military career, having been commissioned into the Indian Army on June 11, 1988. Throughout his nearly four decades of service, he has accumulated extensive operational, staff, and instructional experience. His previous command appointments reflect his capabilities, including his leadership of the elite Brahmastra Corps as well as commanding an infantry battalion and brigade in the challenging super high-altitude terrain of Siachen. Additionally, he has served as the General Officer Commanding of an Infantry Division, showcasing his versatility in various operational capacities.
Beyond his command roles, Lt Gen Krishnan has held several critical staff and strategic positions. His tenure as Director General of Information Technology at the Integrated Headquarters of the Ministry of Defence (Army) involved overseeing vital technological advancements. He also served as Defence Attaché at the High Commission of India in London and held the position of Quarter Master General at Army Headquarters, where he implemented key reforms. These included improvements in operational sustenance and combat readiness, alongside enhancements in supply chain management and infrastructure development.
In training and regimental roles, Lt Gen Krishnan has made significant contributions as the Colonel of The Dogra Regiment and Dogra Scouts. His former position as Commandant of the Counter Insurgency and Jungle Warfare School was marked by his commitment to setting high standards in specialized training and doctrine.
During the ceremonial assumption of command, Lt Gen Krishnan paid tribute to the fallen soldiers and called upon all ranks to uphold the highest standards of operational preparedness. He stressed the importance of strengthening jointness among the armed forces, accelerating the integration of technology, and enhancing coordination with stakeholders to ensure peace and stability in the Eastern theatre.
