Lithuanian authorities have announced that 15 individuals have been charged with terrorism offenses related to a plot allegedly backed by Russia to carry out bombings across Europe. Prosecutors revealed that the suspects orchestrated an operation to send explosive-laden packages to locations in Germany, Poland, and Britain using prominent delivery services, including DHL and DPD.
According to a statement from Lithuania’s prosecutor’s office, the operation involved sending four parcels containing explosives concealed within cosmetics containers from Vilnius, the Lithuanian capital, to various destinations across Europe. The investigation found that three of these devices detonated successfully: one at Leipzig airport in Germany, another in a truck in Poland, and a third in a warehouse in the United Kingdom. The fourth device failed to detonate.
The individuals charged hail from various countries, including Russia, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, and Ukraine, although it remains unclear how many of them are currently in custody. The prosecutor’s office indicated that the operation was international in scope and noted that it was “organized and coordinated” by individuals associated with the military intelligence services of the Russian Federation.
The revelation of these charges adds to ongoing concerns about Russian involvement in destabilizing activities across Europe and underscores the need for vigilance regarding international security threats.
