Lieutenant General Pratik Sharma, the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Indian Army’s Northern Command, undertook a thorough review of the security landscape in North Kashmir recently. His inspection on June 24 centered on forward areas managed by the Chinar Corps, amidst heightened tensions along the Line of Control (LoC) due to a spate of ceasefire violations reported earlier in the year.
During his visit, Lt Gen Sharma received comprehensive briefings regarding the operational posture of troops stationed in the area. He observed a live demonstration showcasing advanced military technologies that are geared toward augmenting cyber warfare and surveillance capabilities. These advancements reflect his substantial experience in the military, particularly from his previous role as Director General of Information Warfare, where he significantly influenced the Indian Army’s strategies in psychological and electronic warfare.
The General engaged with soldiers operating in high-altitude conditions, emphasizing the critical need for sustained combat readiness, efficient rapid response protocols, and ongoing training to effectively counter emerging threats. His visit was not solely focused on assessments; it also included an award ceremony that honored exemplary performance among troops stationed along the LoC. This ceremony highlighted the army’s commitment to maintaining high standards of discipline, morale, and operational excellence.
Moreover, Lt Gen Sharma’s review aligns with the overarching transformation strategy of the Indian Army, which is articulated in its ambitious 2024 modernization roadmap. This plan encompasses the establishment of 16 specialized technology clusters concentrating on areas such as artificial intelligence, drone warfare, and predictive analytics that aim to enhance battlefield decision-making.
As the region faces an intensifying and complex security environment, the Northern Command remains steadfast in its mission to protect India’s territorial integrity while adapting to the evolving landscape of modern warfare, particularly in the strategically sensitive Kashmir Valley.
