In a significant show of commitment to the welfare of soldiers, Lt Gen Sadhna S Nair, Director General of Medical Services (Army) and Senior Colonel Commandant, conducted an inspection of the forward medical echelons of Dao Division and Spear Head Healers stationed in the Eastern Sector on February 15, 2025.
The visit provided Lt Gen Nair an opportunity to assess the quality of combat medical support being offered by the teams, and she expressed her strong appreciation for the high levels of skill and technological advancement demonstrated by the medical personnel. Emphasizing their pivotal role, she recognized the unyielding dedication of these teams to ensure the health and safety of soldiers operating in challenging environments.
Beyond boosting morale, the inspection allowed Lt Gen Nair to observe first-hand the operational readiness and innovative methods adopted in combat medical care, further highlighting the evolving landscape of military medicine.
In a gesture of honor and respect, Lt Gen Nair also visited the recently renovated Walong War Memorial, where she paid tribute to the heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice during the Battle of Walong. This memorial stands as a poignant reminder of the valor displayed by those who fought in the 1962 conflict with China, and her visit reinforced the importance of remembering and honoring their legacy.
Since assuming her role in August 2024, Lt Gen Nair has made history as the first woman to lead the Directorate General of Medical Services in the Indian Army. Her visit is seen not only as a testament to her commitment but also as a significant indicator of the increasing representation and leadership of women in the armed forces.
