Lieutenant General Vineet Sharma, AVSM, VSM, the Director General Dental Services (DGDS) and Colonel Commandant of the Army Dental Corps, recently completed an extensive visit to several prominent military dental institutions in Bengaluru from March 6 to 8, 2025. His itinerary featured stops at the Air Force Institute of Dental Sciences, the Military Dental Centre, and the Institute of Aerospace Medicine (IAM).
During this comprehensive tour, Lt Gen Sharma expressed his admiration for the outstanding patient care facilities and dental treatment services available at these establishments. He commended the commitment and dedication displayed by the dental teams in providing high-quality care to the defense personnel and their families, emphasizing the military’s ongoing dedication to health and wellness.
In his discussions, Lt Gen Sharma stressed the crucial importance of preventive dental care. He advocated for regular oral health surveillance as a means to identify and mitigate potential health issues before they escalate. Furthermore, he addressed the vital role of research in aerospace dentistry, urging ongoing advancements to tackle the unique challenges faced by personnel working in aviation environments.
This visit forms part of Lt Gen Sharma’s broader initiative to enhance dental services throughout military structures. Earlier in January 2025, he had already assessed dental facilities at the Command Military Dental Centre in Kolkata and the Military Dental Centre in Barrackpore, where he underscored the necessity for modernization and the integration of advanced dental technologies.
The engagements undertaken by Lt Gen Sharma reflect a sustained commitment to raising the standards of dental care within the armed forces. His efforts are aimed at ensuring that military personnel have access to comprehensive and specialized oral healthcare that meets their unique needs.
