Meet MNS Officer Veena Sahu

Veena Sahumade, a 24-year-old from Jamarua village in Chhattisgarh, has achieved a big milestone by joining the Military Nursing Service (MNS) of the Indian Army. She was the first girl in her family to get a government job, making her story an inspiration for many in her village.

Coming from a simple farming family, Veena’s journey wasn’t easy. She is one of five sisters and often had to cycle long distances to attend school. Despite financial struggles, her father always supported her education and dreams.

After finishing her nursing course in 2022, she prepared hard and passed the tough MNS exam in 2024, securing one of the 455 positions amongst 1,400 candidates.

Now working in Haryana, Veena returned to her village, where she was welcomed like a hero. Her proud father’s tears of joy and the celebrations in her village showed how much her achievement means to everyone.

“My selection felt like a festival at home,” Veena said. “It has inspired many girls in my village to believe in their dreams.”

Veena’s success proves that determination and hard work can help overcome challenges, inspiring hope for a brighter future amongst the girls in her community.
