The Military Hospital (MH) Bareilly recently conducted an in-depth Trauma Life Support Workshop at the Junior Leaders Academy (JLA), aimed at bolstering the emergency response capabilities of junior military leaders. This initiative is part of the Indian Army’s ‘Train the Trainers’ program, emphasizing the importance of pre-hospital trauma care and first response skills that are crucial for saving lives in various operational conditions.
The one-day workshop comprised hands-on training and interactive sessions, which covered essential trauma management techniques. Participants, dressed in combat uniforms, utilized mannequins to practice medical interventions, simulating both battlefield and peacetime emergencies. This emphasis on realistic scenarios helped ensure that the trainees developed the practical competence necessary to operate effectively under pressure.
Conducted with the backing of the Directorate General of Armed Forces Medical Services (DGAFMS), Ministry of Defence, the workshop highlights the Army’s commitment to enhancing trauma care preparedness. The training is built upon findings from a 2011 study published in the Medical Journal of Armed Forces India, which pointed out the pressing need for improved trauma response training across various military ranks.
The Junior Leaders Academy, recognized as a premier institution for defense training in Uttar Pradesh, provided a suitable backdrop for the workshop. The initiative’s focus on first responder training is crucial for closing the gap between injury occurrence and hospital care, particularly in hostile or remote environments.
Moreover, this workshop is part of a broader strategy by the Indian Armed Forces to institutionalize trauma care protocols, which includes regular training courses and the establishment of trauma registries. Attendees reported feeling more confident in their ability to handle real-life emergencies, marking the event as a significant advancement in the Army’s life-saving capabilities both in combat scenarios and civilian contexts.
