Born on March 3, 1976, in Kalol Bakain, located in the Bilaspur district of Himachal Pradesh, Kumar began his illustrious military journey when he enlisted in the 13th Battalion of the Jammu and Kashmir Rifles on June 26, 1996. His decisive actions during the Kargil War in 1999 have etched his name into the annals of military history. On July 4, 1999, during a critical assault in the Mushkoh Valley at Area Flat Top of Point 4875, Kumar, serving as a Rifleman, exhibited extraordinary valor. He led a charge against enemy positions under intense enemy fire, suffering numerous injuries in the process. Despite these setbacks, he engaged in close combat, eliminating three enemy soldiers and seizing an enemy machine gun. His courageous efforts were pivotal in securing this strategically significant position, earning him the revered Param Vir Chakra for his gallantry.
