Rashtrapati Bhavan to Host A Wedding of A CRPF Officer

The Rashtrapati Bhavan serves as the official residence of the President of India and this is where foreign heads of states stay when they come to the country on an official visit. The person who will get this rare honour is Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) officer, Poonam Gupta.

The report states that President Murmu has been highly impressed by Gupta’s performance and has thus arranged for the wedding ceremony to be conducted in the Mother Teresa Crown Complex within the Rashtrapati Bhavan premises.

About Poonam Gupta

Poonam Gupta is a CRPF assistant commandant. She is currently posted as a personal security officer (PSO) of the President.

Gupta will reportedly marry another assisstant commandant, Avneesh Kumar, who is currently posted in Jammu and Kashmir.

She had led CRPF’s all-women contingent during the 74th Republic Day parade

February 12 is the date that has been fixed for the occasion.

A highly qualified officer, Gupta holds a bachelor’s degree in Maths, a postgraduate degree in English Literature, and a B.Ed from Gwalior’s Jiwaji University.

Gupta was ranked 81st in the UPSC CAPF exam, as per the report. She was earlier posted at a Naxal-affected area in Bihar.

Central Reserve Police Force

The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) is one of the premier Central Armed Police Forces of India (under the Ministry of Home Affairs) for internal security. Originally constituted as the Crown Representative Police in 1939, it is one of the oldest Central paramilitary forces. After Independence, the force was renamed as Central Reserve Police Force by an Act of Parliament on December 28, 1949.

Duties performed by the CRPF include

Crowd/ Riot control

Counter Militancy/Insurgency operations

Dealing with Left Wing Extremism

Protection of VIPs and vital installations

Checking environmental degradation and protection of local Flora and Fauna

Fighting aggression during War time

Participating in UN Peacekeeping Mission

Rescue and Relief operations at the time of Natural Calamities
