Reliance Defence Limited has secured a significant export contract worth ₹600 crore from Rheinmetall Waffe Munition GmbH, a prominent German defense manufacturer. This deal marks a noteworthy advancement in India’s private defense manufacturing sector.
The contract materialized following the unveiling of a strategic partnership between Reliance Defence, a subsidiary of Reliance Infrastructure Limited, and Rheinmetall. This agreement is regarded as one of the largest in the high-tech ammunition segment, setting the stage for a considerable boost in India’s defense export capabilities.
Anil Ambani, Founder Chairman of Reliance Group, described the agreement as a transformative milestone. He stated, “The strategic partnership with Rheinmetall brings cutting-edge capabilities to India and positions Reliance Defence as a global supplier in the high-precision munitions domain. This collaboration reinforces our mission to support India’s defense needs and establish the country as a reliable participant in the global defense supply chain.”
Rheinmetall AG CEO Armin Papperger echoed these sentiments, highlighting the company’s commitment to India’s defense sector, particularly under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership. “This partnership demonstrates Rheinmetall’s strong belief in India’s potential and its role as a strategic defense partner,” he remarked.
The collaboration aims to strengthen India’s self-reliance in defense manufacturing while advancing the government’s vision of “Atmanirbhar Bharat.” This initiative focuses on establishing export-ready capabilities in munitions and various critical military technologies.
With this new partnership, Reliance Defence aspires to position itself among the top three defense exporters in India. This goal reflects the country’s increasing presence in the global defense landscape and its rising significance as a manufacturer and supplier of defense technologies.
