The Armed Forces Special Operations Division (AFSOD) established its headquarters in Bengaluru with the goal of carrying out combined operations. The Armed Forces Special Operations Division was initially established in Agra under the Integrated Defence Staff in its early days and has now relocated to Bengaluru.
The AFSOD is now part of the Department of Military Affairs and includes officers and men from the Army Parachute Regiment, Navy-Marine Commandos, and Indian Air Force Garud Commandos. The AFSOD has conducted significant war games for both internal and foreign operations, as well as counter-terrorism operations in Jammu & Kashmir.

The Army’s Para (Special Forces), the Navy’s Marine Commandos (MARCOS), and the Indian Air Force’s Garud are among the AFSOD’s troops. These personnel have been assigned to counter-terrorism operations in the Kashmir Valley. The AFSOD personnel have participated in war exercises near the India-China border in West Bengal’s Siliguri corridor and other areas, performing jumps and other actions. The troops are also being prepared for external area actions such as Operation Cactus Lilly. India has been providing specific equipment to these forces in order to improve their ability to carry out specialist missions across their operational region.
