Two Indian Army Soldiers were killed, 4 Injured
Two Indian soldiers were killed and four were injured during an operation against armed groups in Kashmir, according to the army. After unidentified shooters opened fire on an Indian Army vehicle last month, killing at least five soldiers, Indian defense forces launched a number of operations in the Rajouri sector of the Himalayan region. The army stated in a statement that a search team discovered a group of fighters stranded in an area “thickly vegetated with rocky and steep cliffs” on Friday.
Search Operation Continues
The terrorists triggered an explosive device in retaliation, adding that the operation was still ongoing. The army team has suffered two fatal casualties, with four additional soldiers, including an officer, injured.
Kashmir has been the location of a brutal armed uprising against New Delhi since the 1990s, despite being claimed by both India and Pakistan. For decades, New Delhi has fought to quell secessionist sentiments in its sole Muslim-majority state. In August 2019, Prime Minister Narendra Modi reestablished New Delhi’s sovereignty by repealing Article 370 of the constitution, effectively ending the region’s autonomy and abolishing its statehood by dividing Indian-administered Kashmir into the two federal territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
