US Awards Raytheon $183.7 Million Contract for Patriot Systems to UAE

The United States has recently awarded Raytheon, a prominent aerospace and defense contractor, a substantial contract valued at $183.7 million. This agreement focuses on the supply of new Patriot system hardware and support services under a Foreign Military Sales (FMS) arrangement for the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Under this firm-fixed-price contract, Raytheon is tasked with delivering various Patriot kit hardware components alongside essential services such as procurement, installation, inspection, logistics support, and comprehensive program management. The timeline for this contract extends until March 3, 2031, ensuring a long-term commitment to support the UAE’s defense capabilities.

The work related to this contract will be conducted in Tewksbury, Massachusetts, using funds designated from the fiscal resources allocated for 2026 FMS projects at the time of award. The Patriot missile system has established itself as a vital component in advanced air and missile defense strategies, proficient in tracking and neutralizing a range of aerial threats, including aircraft, cruise missiles, and tactical ballistic missiles.

In broader context, the US government has been actively enhancing the air defense capabilities of its allies through a series of significant Patriot-related FMS agreements over the past year. Notably, in April 2025, the US State Department approved a potential sale worth approximately $280 million of the Patriot air defense system to Romania. This deal is intended to fortify Romania’s defenses against ballistic and cruise missile threats, equipping the nation with radar systems, launch stations, and necessary command equipment.

Additionally, by November 2025, Ukraine received approval for a $105 million Patriot sustainment package. This sale is critical for the country as it encompasses upgrades for launcher systems, essential parts, and logistical support to keep Ukraine’s operational capabilities intact during ongoing regional tensions.

Kuwait’s defense procurement has also seen significant movements with two large-scale Patriot deals approved. In April 2025, the State Department endorsed a potential sale focused on upgrades and associated services for approximately $400 million, which includes critical delivery, installation, and ongoing sustainment support. Following that, in January 2026, the US authorized an extensive $800 million package for Patriot program sustainment and additional technical support for Kuwait. This authorization includes provisions for spare parts, maintenance, surveillance firing, and training equipment, further solidifying Kuwait’s air defense infrastructure as part of the FMS initiative.

These developments underscore the continuous commitment of the US to enhance its allies’ military capabilities, enabling them to better secure their national interests and respond to emerging threats in an increasingly complex global landscape.
