US Will Take Over the Gaza Strip: Trump
US President Donald Trump has said that the United States will take over the Gaza Strip and deploy the American troops in the region if it’s necessary, during a joint press briefing with Israel’s PM Netanyahu in the White House. During a bilateral meeting with Israeli PM Netanyahu, Trump suggested that a US takeover of the Gaza Strip is a “long-term ownership position” which he claims would bring “great stability” to the entire Middle East region.
While talking about the US takeover of Gaza Strip at the press conference, Trump said “We’ll own it and be responsible for dismantling all of the dangerous unexploded bombs and other weapons on the site.” Trump further added, “Level the site, and get rid of the destroyed buildings, level it out, create an economic development that will supply unlimited numbers of jobs and housing for the people of the area, do a real job, do something different”.
Responding to US President Trump’s suggestion of a US takeover of the Gaza Strip, Israel PM Netanyahu said the suggestion is “worthwhile” to pursue. Egypt and Jordan have flatly rejected Trump’s suggestion of moving Palestinians from Gaza. The Palestinian envoy to the United Nations meanwhile said world leaders should “respect” the wishes of Palestinians.
Eighteen hostages have been freed so far in exchange for some 600 mostly Palestinian prisoners from Israeli jails. The truce has also led to a surge of food, fuel, medical and other aid into Gaza, and allowed people displaced by the war to return to the north of the Palestinian territory.
