A significant milestone in aviation training was marked with the valedictory ceremony for the 159th Qualified Flying Instructor Course (QFIC) held at the Flying Instructors School (FIS) at Air Force Station Tambaram on October 9, 2025. The event underscored the Indian Air Force’s unwavering commitment to cultivating exceptional flying instructors, enhancing both national and international aviation standards.

Air Marshal Tejbir Singh, serving as Senior Air Staff Officer of the Training Command, was the Chief Guest for the occasion, highlighting the importance of the QFIC program. A total of 59 officers from the Indian Air Force, allied services, and friendly foreign countries were awarded the prestigious ‘Qualified Flying Instructor (QFI)’ badge, a testament to their instructional capabilities and dedication to professional excellence in aviation.

Among the notable graduates was Squadron Leader Shivangi Singh, recognized as one of India’s first female Rafale pilots. Her achievement in earning the QFI badge is a significant addition to her already impressive credentials. Previously serving with the Golden Arrows Squadron, Sqn Ldr Shivangi played a crucial operational role during Operation Sindoor. This operation saw her countering false propaganda spread by the Pakistan government, effectively showcasing her commitment to integrity and her strong service record.

The Flying Instructors School, which has been operational since 1948, has a distinguished history of producing proficient flying instructors who significantly contribute to the future of aircrew training both in India and abroad. The successful completion of the 159th QFIC further solidifies the IAF’s resolve to uphold the highest standards in aviation training and safety.

The ceremony concluded with Air Marshal Tejbir Singh recognizing and congratulating the graduating officers. He emphasized their vital role in ensuring operational readiness and enhancing the combat capabilities of the Indian Air Force. The event not only celebrated the graduates’ achievements but also reinforced the critical function of instructors in shaping the future of aviation.
