Before moving on let’s understand two terms often mentioned in notifications:
PC(Permanent Commission):
- Candidates joining as PC officers would continue to serve till the age of superannuation as per their branch and their rank
SSC(Short Service Commission):
- The engagement period for Flying Branch SSC officers is fourteen(14) years from the date of commission.
- The initial tenure of SSC officers in Ground Duty(Tech and Non-Tech) branches would be for a period of ten years. An extension of four(4) years may be granted subject to the availability of vacancies, and merit.
- Grant of PC to SSC officers would be considered only in extended tenure of service as per prevailing policies subject to service requirements, availability of vacancies, and merit.

About AFCAT
AFCAT Entry admits candidates to the Air Force Academy where AFA(Air Force Academy, Dundigal) where candidates train for a duration of 74 weeks in case of Flying and Tech branches and 52 weeks for non-tech branches, before being commissioned as Flying Officers in the Indian Air Force. The nature of the commission is SSC for flying branches and both permanent and temporary for ground-duty branches.

- 10% vacancies out of CDSE(parallel course) for PC
- 10% vacancies out of AFCAT for SSC

Eligibility Criteria
- Flying Branch: 20 to 24 years as of 01 Jan 2024 i.e. born between 02 Jan 2000 to 01 Jan 2004 (both dates inclusive). Upper age limit for candidates holding valid and current Commercial Pilot License issued by DGCA (India) is relaxable up to 26 years i.e. born between 02 Jan 1998 to 01 Jan 2004 (both dates inclusive).
- Ground Duty Technical Branch: 20 to 26 years as of 01 Jan 2024 i.e. born between 02 Jan 1998 to 02 Jan 2004 both dates Inclusive).
- Ground Duty Non-Technical Branch: 20 to 26 years as of 01 Jan 2024 i.e. born between 02 Jan 1998 to 02 Jan 2004 both dates Inclusive).
Marital Status
- Candidates below 25 years of age must be unmarried at the time of commencement of the course.
- Widows/Widowers and divorcees(with or without encumbrances) below 25 years of age are also not eligible
Education Qualification
- Flying Branch: Minimum of 50 % in Physics and Maths at 10+2 level and BE/B.Tech with a minimum of 60% marks or Graduate from a recognized university with a minimum of 60%.
- NCC Special Entry (Flying Branch): Candidates who are Air Wing Senior Division ’C’ Certificate holders of the National Cadet Corps can apply to the Flying Branch of the Indian Air Force. Educational Qualification remains the same as Flying Branch.
- Ground Duty(Technical) Branch: Minimum of 50 % in Physics and Maths at 10+2 level and B.E/B.Tech in one of the streams as per notification.
- Ground Duty(Non-Technical) Branch:
- Administration Branch: Passed 10+2 and Graduate Degree (Minimum three years degree course) in any discipline from a recognized university with a minimum of 60% marks
- Accounts Branch: B.Com degree (minimum three-year degree course) from a recognized university with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent.
- Logistics Branch: Minimum of 50% marks each in Maths & Physics at 10+2 level. Graduates (Three Year Courses) in any discipline from a recognized University who have attained minimum 60% marks or equivalent OR BE/B Tech (Four Year Courses) from a recognized university with minimum 60% marks or equivalent
