New PAO complex for Rajputana Rifles Regimental Centre at Delhi Cantt

  • The Controller General of Defence Accounts (CGDA) Shri Rajnish Kumar inaugurated the new office building of the Pay and Accounts Office (PAO) for the Rajputana Rifles Regimental Centre (RRRC) in Delhi Cantonment.
  • The PAO, which functions under the administrative control of Principal Controller of Defence Accounts (PCDA) Western Command, handles more than 23,500 Individual Running Ledger Accounts (IRLAs) of Personnel Below Officer Ranks (PBORs) of Rajputana Rifles Regiment of the Indian Army and manages the disbursement of nearly Rs 160 Crores per month.
  • The CGDA in his address highlighted the ongoing effort for complete business process re-engineering of the Defence Accounts Department, across its various avenues of function, namely, financial advice, payment, accounting, and internal audit. Urging the Department to move towards financial administration with a humane approach, he outlined the various initiatives of DAD such as PRABAL which is being designed to facilitate faster payment to domestic vendors and assist the Indian Defence Industry towards Aatmanirbhar Bharat, as well a Comprehensive Pay System (CPS) to bring efficiency and transparency in management of pay and allowances of the Indian Armed Forces.
  • Prior to construction of the new building, the office of PAO (ORs) RRRC was functioning in a barrack-type hutted accommodation with limited space. The new office building will cater for a separate reception centre with a single window operating system to address the grievances of the Personnel Below Officer Ranks (PBORs). The office also holds the distinction for being the first PAO to implement Project SPARSH successfully from August 2021 and will soon implement the new Interactive Voice Response System (IVRS) for the jawans, which was prototyped and launched recently by PCDA Bengaluru.

Lt Gen Amardeep Singh Aujla takes over as GoC 15 Corps

  • Lt Gen Amardeep Singh Aujla took over as GOC of the strategic Chinar Corps of the India Army from Lt Gen D P Pandey, a defence spokesman said here. Lt Gen Pandey commanded the Corps in a critical phase of 2021 when Kashmir was confronted with the twin challenges of terrorism and the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • “The tenure has been defined by an improved security environment prevailing at the Line of Control, as well as in the hinterland. With the Civil Administration and security forces synergising their efforts to bring normalcy back to Kashmir, terrorism is on the decline with assessed residual terrorist numbers reduced to an all-time low”.

Lieutenant General Gajendra Joshi assumed the command of the STRIKE ONE

  • Lieutenant General Gajendra Joshi assumed the command of the prestigious STRIKE ONE today. On assuming command, he exhorted all ranks to focus on operational preparedness & continue working with utmost zeal & enthusiasm.
    • 1 Corps, popularly known as “STRIKE ONE” was raised in May 1965 at Varanasi under the stewardship of Lt Gen PO Dunn, MC. Raised to be the ultimate instrument of the decision to achia eve decisive victory, it has sounded the trumpet on several occasions, raising a clarion call to arms.

Indian Navy aircraft arrives at La Reunion Island for interaction with French Navy

  • An Indian Navy P8I Long Range Maritime Reconnaissance aircraft arrived at La Reunion Island in the southern Indian Ocean on Monday as part of a five-day deployment for interaction with the French Navy.
  • The Indian Navy routinely takes part in bilateral and multilateral exercises, port calls, and other activities with friendly countries in the Indian Ocean region.
  • The P8I aircraft which possesses advanced capabilities, endurance and demonstrated reach, has previously operated from La Reunion in March 2020.
  • The Indian and French navies have been regularly undertaking coordinated operations, as part of the Varuna series of bilateral exercises.

What are the Areas of Cooperation in India-France Relations?

  • Background: France was one of the first countries with which India signed a “strategic partnership” after the end of the Cold War, in January 1998.
  • France was one of the very few countries to support India’s decision to test nuclear weapons in 1998.
  • Today, France has emerged as India’s most reliable partner on issues relating to terrorism and Kashmir.
  • Defence Cooperation: Both countries have a defence dialogue at the Ministerial level.

Australian Air Force discusses defence ties with Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari

  • Air Marshal Mel Hupfeld, Chief of Air Force, Royal Australian Air Force called on Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari on Monday in New Delhi. Indian Air Force said that both of them discussed issues of mutual interest and ways to enhance bilateral defence cooperation.

India-Australia Relations:

  • Australia is the 17th largest trading partner of India and India is Australia’s 9th largest trading partner.
  • India-Australia bilateral trade for both merchandise and services is valued at USD 27.5 billion in 2021.
  • India’s merchandise exports to Australia grew 135% between 2019 and 2021. India’s exports consist primarily of a broad-based basket largely of finished products and were USD 6.9 billion in 2021.
  • India’s merchandise imports from Australia were USD 15.1 billion in 2021, consisting largely of raw materials, minerals and intermediate goods.
  • India and Australia are partners in the trilateral Supply Chain Resilience Initiative (SCRI) arrangement along with Japan which seeks to enhance the resilience of supply chains in the Indo-Pacific Region.
  • Further, India and Australia are also members of the QUAD grouping (India, the US, Australia and Japan), also comprising the US, and Japan, to further enhance cooperation and develop partnership across several issues of common concern.
