ITBP First to Induct Batch Of Women Canine Squad Handlers Among CAPFs 

  • Border guarding force ITBP has decided to induct a batch of eight women personnel who will be the first among the central paramilitary forces to be trained as handlers for canine squads deployed in various security theatres, including anti-Naxal operations. Dog handlers in the CAPFs are an all-male domain right now.
  • The selected women Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) personnel are in the rank of constable and belong to the ‘animal transport’ cadre of the mountain-warfare trained force that was raised in the wake of the 1962 Chinese aggression along India’s eastern front.
  • The force is primarily tasked to guard the 3,488-km-long Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China, apart from rendering a variety of duties in the internal security domain like conducting anti-Maoist operations and carrying out anti-sabotage checks during high-profile events and VVIP visits.
  • The eight women are part of a 25 personnel team who will join training in the last week of this month at the ITBP-run National Training Centre for Dogs (NTCD) in the Bhanu area in Haryana’s Panchkula.

President Confers 13 Shaurya Chakras

  • President Shri Ram Nath Kovind, who is the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, conferred 13 Shaurya Chakras, including six posthumous, to the personnel of the Armed Forces during Defence Investiture Ceremony (Phase-1) held at Rashtrapati Bhawan in New Delhi.
  • The President also conferred 14 Param Vishisht Seva Medals, four Uttam Yudh Seva Medals, and 24 Ati Vishisht Seva Medals for distinguished service of an exceptional order.

​Trishakti Corps of the Indian Army celebrates 62nd Raising Day  

  • Trishakti Corps of the Indian Army celebrates 62nd Raising Day at Sukna, Darjeeling.  Lieutenant General Tarun Kumar Aich, AVSM, General Officer Commanding Trishakti Corps paid homage to the Bravehearts who made supreme sacrifice for the nation & laid a wreath at the War Memorial.
    • XXXIII Corps is a corps of the Indian Army. It draws some of its heritage from the British Indian XXXIII Corps which was formed in 1942 but disbanded in 1945. It was re-raised in 1960 at Shillong.
    • The corps is headquartered in Sukna in North Bengal and is commanded by a Three Star officer of the rank of Lieutenant General titled General Officer Commanding (GOC). His chief of staff is a Two Star officer of the rank of Major General. The total troop strength of the XXXIII corps is estimated to be between 45,000 and 60,000 soldiers.

AI Engineering & Boeing may join hands to maintain VVIP ‘India One’ B777s & Navy’s P-8I

  • Soon to be privatised Air India Engineering Services Ltd (AIESL) and Boeing may join hands to maintain the two VVIP Boeing 777s used by the president, VP and PM for their medium and long-haul international flights. The American aerospace major on Tuesday said it is exploring “opportunities with AIESL for the maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) of critical equipment on key Boeing defence platforms in India, including the P-8I operated by the Indian Navy and the 777 VIP aircraft operated by the Indian Air Force.”
  • In a statement, Boeing said the collaboration would support the Indian Navy’s growing P-8I fleet, building up the local aviation ecosystem, while ensuring quicker turnarounds for the Indian Navy. It would also help build indigenous MRO capabilities as it would bring the P-8I landing gear repair and overhaul work to India for the first time.

Indian Navy Standby for Rescue and Relief Ops for Severe Cyclonic Storm Asani

  • The Indian Navy is closely monitoring movement of the Severe ‘Asani’ in the Bay of Bengal as it is likely to move close to North Andhra Pradesh and South Odisha coast during the next 24 hrs. Hq, ENC and Naval Officers-in-Charge at Andhra Pradesh and Odisha Area have carried out preparatory activities to deal with the effects of Severe Cyclone.
  • Five Indian Navy ships are on standby with Relief Material, Diving and Medical teams to render assistance in the most affected areas along the coast of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha. Naval aircraft have been kept ready at Naval Air Stations, INS Dega at Visakhapatnam and INS Rajali near Chennai to undertake aerial surveys of the most affected areas and casualty evacuation.
