6th Edition of Shakti 2021

  • The sixth edition of the Indo-French Shakti 2021 (bilateral joint training exercise) will be conducted in November in Frejus, France.
  • From the Indian side, a platoon strength of a Gorkha Rifles Infantry Battalion will participate in the exercise.
  • It will focus on Counter Terrorism operations in backdrop of semi-urban terrain under United Nations Mandate with an aim to enhance military cooperation and inter-operability between the two Armies.
  • The biennial exercise between the armies of the two countries had started in 2011. It is conducted alternately in India and France.

NAVCENT: First Joint Naval Exercise

  • Forces from the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Israel and the United States Naval Forces Central Command (NAVCENT) began a multilateral maritime security operations exercise in the Red Sea.
  • This is the first publicly acknowledged naval exercise between the United States, Israel and the two Gulf countries.
  • The UAE and Bahrain in 2020 normalized diplomatic relations with Israel under a US-brokered deal known as the Abraham Accords, brought together by shared worries about Iran and hopes of economic gains.
  • The US 5th Fleet/NAVCENT is based in the Gulf Island state of Bahrain and operates in the Arabian Gulf, Gulf of Oman, Red Sea, and parts of the Indian Ocean.
  • Since February 2021, Iran and Israel have been accused of engaging in what analysts have called a “shadow war”, in which vessels linked to each nation have come under attack in waters around the Gulf in tit-for-tat exchanges.

Safaimitra Suraksha Challenge Campaign

  • As part of the ‘World toilet Day’ celebrations, Ministry of Housing and Urban Development is launching a weeklong awareness campaign on SafaiMitra Suraksha Challenge (SSC) from November 14th to 20th November 2021 to run up to the ‘Swachh Amrit Diwas’, an award ceremony to recognize the role and efforts of the states, cities, ULBs and Cantonment Board in Swachh Sarvekshan 2021, and Garbage Free Star Rating certification on 20th November, 2021
  • A total of 246 cities are participating in SafaiMitra Suraksha Challenge (SSC) which is being conducted across the country. Through this challenge it is aimed to encourage cities to mechanize their sewer and septic tank cleaning operations in order to prevent deaths and fatalities of sanitation workers from ‘hazardous entry’. Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) launched the Safaimitra Suraksha Challenge (SSC) on the occasion of World Toilet Day (19th November 2020) with the objective of eradicating the practice of hazardous cleaning of sewers and septic tanks and promote mechanized cleaning of the same.  On the launch of Swachh Sarvekshan 2022, MoHUA also flagged off the field assessments for the SSC. As per the timelines for the Challenge it was launched with toolkit on 19th November 2020 and the preparatory period for it was  from 20th Nov 2020 to 30th Sep 2021 and the evaluation was done in October 2021.
  • Call Centre and Helpline number ‘14420’ operationalized in 345 cities for safe cleaning of septic tanks/sewers.

Tele-Law Mobile App

  • As part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, Law Minister Kiren Rijiju on Saturday launched Citizens’ Tele Law Mobile App and felicitated frontline functionaries at a function in New Delhi. This App would connect the beneficiaries directly with Panel Lawyers offering legal advice and consultation.
  • Post this launch this Mobile App, in Android version would be available on Google Play store for download. He said, this App will go a long way in serving the people of the country in terms of legal aspects. Mr. Rijiju said that there is a need to bring changes in our working system with a view to empower the citizens and to give a boost to the development of the country. He said, it is the responsibility of the government to ensure justice to the poorest of the poor through whatever services they need.

National Recruitment Agency

  • Union Minister of State for Personnel and Public Grievances Dr. Jitendra Singh on Thursday said that National Recruitment Agency will be established in the country by March 2022 which will conduct Common Eligibility Test for recruitment. Speaking at Regional Conference on Strengthening the State Institutions of Public Administration in Lucknow, Dr. Singh said that the Central Government is trying to provide at least one center of examination in every major district so that aspirants especially girls do not have to travel far for competitive examinations.
  • He said that face of bureaucracy is changing, and the change of pace is now increasing, and joint pooling of resources and synergism is no longer an option, but it’s a compulsion.

First Instalment of PMAY-G

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi will transfer the first installment of Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana – Gramin (PMAY-G) to more than 1.47 lakh beneficiaries of Tripura at 1 PM today via video conferencing. More than 700 crore rupees will be credited directly to the bank accounts of the beneficiaries on the occasion.
  • Following Prime Minister’s intervention, taking in to account unique geo-climatic condition of Tripura, the definition of ‘kuccha’ house has been changed specifically for the state, which has enabled such a large number of beneficiaries living in ‘kuccha’ houses to get assistance to construct a ‘pucca’ house.
  • Union Rural Development Minister Giriraj Singh and Chief Minister of Tripura Biplab Kumar Deb will also be present during the event.

Jawaharlal Nehru Birth Anniversary

  • The nation observed 132nd birth anniversary of Jawaharlal Nehru. The occasion is celebrated across the nation as Children’s Day.
  • Jawaharlal Nehru was born on November 14, 1889, in Allahabad (known today as Prayagraj) to Motilal and Swarup Rani Nehru. One of India’s most celebrated freedom fighters, he served as the Prime Minister for 17 years, from August 15, 1947, till his demise on May 17, 1964, at the age of 74.
  • Nehru was very popular among children, and thus received the sobriquet of ‘Chacha (uncle) Nehru.’ His birth anniversary, is, therefore, celebrated as Children’s Day across the country.

Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas

  • Government of India has declared that the birth anniversary of Bhagwan Birsa Munda will be celebrated as Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas. To mark the occasion, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will inaugurate भगवान बिरसा मुंडा स्मृति उद्यान सह स्वतंत्रता सेनानी संग्रहालय at Ranchi.
  • These museums will cherish the memories of tribal freedom fighters from various States and regions.
  • भगवान बिरसा मुंडा स्मृति उद्यान सह स्वतंत्रता सेनानी संग्रहालय has been built in association with the State Government of Jharkhand at the Old Central Jail in Ranchi, where Bhagwan Birsa Munda had sacrificed his life. It will serve as a tribute to his sacrifice for the nation and tribal communities. The museum will play an important role in preserving and promoting tribal culture and history.
  • Along with Bhagwan Birsa Munda, the museum will also highlight other tribal freedom fighters associated with different movements such as Shahid Budhu Bhagat, Sidhu-Kanhu, Nilambar-Pitambar etc.
