IAF signs MOU with IIT Madras
- IAF and IIT Madras signed an MoU on 13 April 22 for various developmental projects to support the requirements of the IAF.
- Under the ambit of MoU, IAF has identified key focus areas involving technology development and finding indigenous solutions for just the enhancement of various weapon systems. IIT Madras will provide consultancy duly supported by research for feasibility studies and prototype development.
- IIT Madras in partnership with IAF will significantly contribute to indigenisation efforts by Base Repair Depots (BRDs) of Maintenance Command IAF, towards enhancing sustenance capability, obsolescence management and achieving ‘Self Reliance’.
- The MoU was signed by Air Commodore S Bahuja, Command Engineering Officer (Systems), Headquarters Maintenance Command, IAF and Professor HSN Murthy, Head of Department Aerospace Engineering IIT Madras, at Air Force Station, Tughlakabad, Delhi.
Rajnath Singh Reaches Hawaii for A Visit to US Indo-pacific Command Headquarters
- Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh reached Hawaii on April 12, 2022, for a visit to the Headquarters of the United States Indo-Pacific Command (USINDOPACOM). On his arrival from Washington DC, Shri Rajnath Singh was received by Commander, US INDOPACOM Admiral John Aquilino.
- The USINDOPACOM and Indian military have wide-ranging engagements, including a number of military exercises, training events, and exchanges.
- The Raksha Mantri visited the USINDOPACOM HQ, Pacific Fleet, and the training facilities in Hawaii on April 13, 2022, before returning to India. He is also expected to lay wreaths at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific and visit the Headquarters of the US Army Pacific and Pacific Air Forces, during his brief stay in Hawaii.
14TH INDIAN NAVY – ROYAL AUSTRALIAN NAVY (IN – RAN) NAVY TO NAVY STAFF TALKS
- 14th IN – RAN Navy to Navy Staff Talks were held from 11-13 Apr 22 at New Delhi. The meeting was co-chaired by RAdm Christopher Smith, Deputy Chief of Navy, RAN, and RAdm J Singh, ACNS (FCI), IN.
- Major issues discussed included maritime operations, information exchange and training. Both sides also acknowledged the growing cooperation between the two Navies amid the emerging challenges on the maritime front and agreed to enhance collaboration and interoperability towards ensuring maritime security in IOR.
- On completion of 14th IN – RAN Staff Talks, RAdm Christopher Smith interacted with VAdm Sanjay Mahindru, Deputy Chief of Naval Staff, Indian Navy, at South Block, New Delhi on 13 April 2022.
US Navy Ships May Be Seen at Indian Shipyards In Future
- In a small but significant move, India and the United States have decided to explore the possibilities of Indian shipyards not only maintaining but also repairing American navy ships.
- This is expected to not only further boost the India-US defence trade, but also bring additional business to the Indian shipyards. The decision in this regard was taken during the India-US 2+2 ministerial meeting that was held in Washington.
- US Secretary of State Antony Blinken along with Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin led the American delegation while the Indian delegation was led by External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.
- “To further enhance defence industrial cooperation in the naval sector, both sides agreed to explore possibilities of utilising the Indian shipyards for repair and maintenance of ships of the US Maritime Sealift Command (MSC) to support mid-voyage repair of US Naval ships,” said the joint statement issued after the 2+2 meeting.
COAS visited Rashtriya Raksha University
- General MM Naravane COAS visited Rashtriya Raksha University RRU & National Forensic Sciences University NFSU at Gandhinagar. The visit will enhance collaboration between the Indian Army & Academia to build a stronger & safer Nation.
- During the visit, General MM Naravane COAS also released the book “Fifty Years of the 1971 War: Accounts from Veterans”.
Rashtriya Raksha University
- Rashtriya Raksha University, formerly Raksha Shakti University (RSU), is a Central University located in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, India. It has a specialization in National and Internal Security.
