From Ladakh to Northeast, 6 Indian Army Divisions shifted from the Pak front

  • In his recent visit to the Ladakh sector, Army chief Gen Manoj Pande reviewed the security situation along the LAC in view of the Chinese threat for which the Indian Army has shifted six Divisions that were earlier deployed in counter-terrorism roles and after taking care of Pakistan front.
  • The military standoff with China has been going on for over two years now when the Chinese side attempted to change the status quo unilaterally by moving troops in large numbers against Indian positions.
  • One division from Rashtriya Rifles was taken out from counter-terrorism roles from Jammu and Kashmir and has now been deployed in the Eastern Ladakh sector and would be there along with the 3 Division already based there
  • Likewise, an Assam-based Division under the Tezpur-based Gajaraj Corps has been pulled out of its counter-insurgency role from the state and now its mandate is to look after the China border in the northeast.
  • Two Army Divisions located in Uttar Pradesh have also now been assigned to the Northern Command for Ladakh theatre. Uttarakhand-based Division of a Strike Corps has been reassigned to the Central Command to look after the entire Central sector where the Chinese have been attempting transgressions on multiple occasions.

DEPLOYMENT OF INS GHARIAL TO SEYCHELLES – MISSION SAGAR IX

  • As part of ongoing deployment of Indian Naval Ship Gharial in the southwest Indian Ocean, under Mission SAGAR IX, the Ship called at Port Victoria, Seychelles from 11 to 14 May 22.
  • Following up on the proposal received from the Govt of Seychelles earlier, three ceremonial Saluting Guns, with ammunition, were delivered by the Ship to the Seychelles Defence Forces. These were formally presented by Gen Dalbir Singh Suhag (Retd), High Commissioner of India to Seychelles to Brigadier Michael Rosette, the Chief of Defence, SDF in a solemn ceremony held onboard INS Gharial on 13 May 22.
  • INS Gharial also transshipped one 15 m Wave Rider Patrol Boat, sourced by Seychelles from Colombo and was handed over to Seychelles Defence Forces (SDF).
  •  During the stay of the Ship at Seychelles, the Indian Navy facilitated training of SDF personnel in domain specific maritime disciplines. Coming close to the recent official visit of Admiral R Hari Kumar, Chief of the Naval Staff, Indian Navy to Seychelles from 21-23 Apr 22, the activities undertaken during the port call of INS Gharial, amply demonstrate the commitment of Indian Navy in making positive contribution to capacity building and capability enhancement efforts of the Seychelles Defence Forces.
  • Before calling at Port Victoria, the ship had also visited Colombo, Sri Lanka and Male, Maldives to deliver essential medical supplies. Successive deployments of the Indian Navy under Mission SAGAR are aligned with the vision of Security And Growth for All in the Region and strengthen the concept of ‘Collective Responsibility’ for maritime security in the Indian Ocean Region.

To Train Troops On Tibet Against China, Army Signs Mou With Sikkim Varsity

  • The Indian Army has signed a MoU with the Sikkim University to conduct Tibetology Cadre for its officers and men to acquire knowledge about the strategic mountainous region before they deal with the threat of PLA of China along the Line of Actual Control.
    • General Officer Commanding of the Trishakti Corps under the Eastern Command Lieutenant General Tarun Kumar Aich and Sikkim University vice-chancellor Avinash Khare signed the MoU at Gangtok.
    • Each batch will comprise around 30-40 Army officers and men from all arms of the service who will undergo the course guided by their superiors, scholars, monks (Lamas) and strategic experts specialised in Tibet and Indo-China military relations.

G7 Countries Condemn North Korea’s Continued Ballistic Missile Tests

  • The G7 Foreign Ministers on Saturday condemned North Korea’s testing of ballistic missiles and further development of missile and nuclear capabilities.
  • The three-day meeting of foreign ministers of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States is being held in Germany from Saturday to Monday to discuss Russia’s military operation in Ukraine and other global issues.
  • Group of Seven (G7)
  • It is an intergovernmental organisation that was formed in 1975.
  • The bloc meets annually to discuss issues of common interest like global economic governance, international security, and energy policy.
  • The G7 countries are the UK, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, and the US.
  • All the G7 countries and India are a part of G20.
  • The G7 does not have a formal constitution or a fixed headquarters. The decisions taken by leaders during annual summits are non-binding.

IAF signs MoU with SBI for Use of Corporate Card in IAF Canteens

  • Indian Air Force (IAF) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the country’s largest lender State Bank of India (SBI) for the use of a Corporate Card in its Unit run Canteen.
  • The collaboration will improve the functioning of URC wherein they would avail an interest-free credit for up to 50 days in addition to saving the cost of interest on an overdraft facility.
