India, China To Continue Talks For Solution To Remaining Issues Along LAC In Eastern Ladakh

  • The 16th round India-China Corps Commander Level Meeting was held on Sunday with the two sides reaffirming that the resolution of remaining issues in eastern Ladakh would help in the restoration of peace and tranquillity along the LAC in the Western Sector and enable progress in bilateral relations.
  • India-China joint statement issued on Monday said the two sides agreed to stay in close contact and maintain dialogue through military and diplomatic channels and work out a mutually acceptable resolution of the remaining issues at the earliest.
  • The two sides reaffirmed that the resolution of remaining issues would help in restoration of peace and tranquility along the LAC in the Western Sector and enable progress in bilateral relations.
  • In the interim, the two sides agreed to maintain the security and stability on the ground in the Western Sector. The two sides agreed to stay in close contact and maintain dialogue through military and diplomatic channels and work out a mutually acceptable resolution of the remaining issues at the earliest.
  • The Indian side in the talks was led by Fire and Fury Corps Commander Lt Gen A Sengupta. The 16th round India- China Corps Commander Level Meeting was held at the Chushul-Moldo border meeting point on the Indian side.

Kargil War Commemorative Motorcycle Expedition  

  • To commemorate the 23 years of victory over Pakistan in Kargil War of 1999 and celebrate the spirit of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’, the Indian Army has organised a Motor Bike expedition from New Delhi to the Kargil War Memorial at Dras (Ladakh).
  • The 30-member rally was flagged off by Lt Gen B S Raju, the Vice Chief of Army Staff from the National War Memorial, New Delhi on 18 July 22. The rally intends to spread the message of patriotism by highlighting the grit & determination portrayed by our brave soldiers, deployed in service of the Nation.
  • The bike rally would pass through Haryana, Punjab, Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh before culminating the expedition at the Kargil War Memorial, Dras on 26 July 22. In order to cover maximum areas, the rally is being split into two teams, who will move along two different axes; i.e the Zojila Pass axis and Rohtang Pass axis, covering a distance of 1400 Km and 1700 Km respectively. During the rally, the team will traverse through high mountain passes and arduous tracks with an endeavour to reach remote localities along the route.
  • The rally intends to spread the message of patriotism by highlighting the grit & determination portrayed by our brave soldiers, deployed in service of the Nation.

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi unveils ‘SPRINT Challenges’

  • PM Narendra Modi unveiled ‘SPRINT Challenges’, aimed at giving a boost to the usage of indigenous technology in Indian Navy, during Naval Innovation and Indigenisation Organisation (NIIO) seminar ‘Swavlamban’ in New Delhi on July 18, 2022.
    • This collaborative project is named SPRINT {Supporting Pole-Vaulting in R&D through Innovations for Defence Excellence (iDEX), NIIO and Technology Development Acceleration Cell (TDAC)}. Organizing the first ‘Swavlamban’ seminar for a self-reliant Navy is an important step in this direction.
    • PM Modi said, “If you do not give love and respect to your own child and expect the same from your neighbours, can it be done? If we do not value our products, how can we expect the world to invest in us? When we showed confidence in our indigenously developed BRAHMOS, the world came forward too.”

After Outrage , IAF Clarifies says Committed to Buy 6 Squadrons Of LCA-Mark 2

  • Fully backing the indigenous fighter aircraft programmes, Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari on Monday said the Indian Air Force has already given the commitment to buy six squadrons of the under development Light Combat Aircraft Mark 2 or LCA M2 and would place more orders for these planes once their production begins.
  • The IAF has already placed orders for four squadrons of the LCA Mark 1A and has committed towards inducting at least seven squadrons of the fifth generation Indian fighter Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) which is also progressing very fast, he said.
  • The LCA Mark 2 fighter is intended to be the replacement for the Mirage 2000 and Jaguar fighters when they are due for phasing out after a decade.

Border Police Creates 1st Mountain Warfare Training School In Northeast

  • The ITBP has created its first mountain-warfare training centre in northeast India, its second overall, to skill its troops in high-altitude combat and survival tactics as part of their mandate to guard the Line of Actual Control with China.
  • The facility has come almost five decades after the establishment of its first such school called mountaineering and skiing institute (M&SI) during 1973-74 at Auli near Joshimath. The M&SI is located at a height of more than 9,000 ft in the Himalayan ranges of Uttarakhand.
  • The new centre has been established in remote Dombang, abutting the LAC, and is located at a height of 10,040 ft in Sikkim that shares a 220 km front of the India-China LAC.
  • The LAC on India’s eastern flank runs from Jammu and Kashmir (1,597 kms), Himachal Pradesh (200 kms), Uttarakhand (345 kms), Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh (1,126 kms). The 16th round of high-level military talks between India and China got underway on Sunday with a focus on resolving outstanding issues in the remaining friction points along the LAC in eastern Ladakh.
