International Girls In ICT Day

  • International Girls in ICT Day marked annually on the fourth Thursday in April. This year International Girls in ICT Day is observed on 28th April 2021. International Girls in ICT Day aims to inspire a global movement to increase the representation of girls and women in technology. Today, let’s recommit to the goal of equal access for young women and girls to opportunities in science, technology, engineering, and math.

World Day For Safety And Health At Work

  • It Is Observed On 28 April And Promotes The Prevention Of Occupational Accidents And Diseases Across The World.

International Jazz Day

  • International Jazz Day is an International Day declared by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization in 2011 “to highlight jazz and its diplomatic role of uniting people in all corners of the globe.“
  • It is celebrated annually on April 30.
  •  The idea came from jazz pianist and UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador Herbie Hancock. Jazz Day is chaired by Hancock and the UNESCO Director-General. The celebration is recognized on the calendars of both UNESCO and the United Nations.

86% Of Adult Population In Country Fully Vaccinated

  • Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya said that over 86 percent of the adult population is now fully vaccinated in the country. Health Ministry said, country’s COVID vaccination coverage has crossed 188 crore mark. It said, more than 19 lakh vaccine doses were administered yesterday.
  • The Ministry said, more than three crore 18 lakh vaccine doses have been administered to 12 to 14 years age group so far. Over two crore 72 lakh precaution doses have been administered to the identified categories of beneficiaries including Health Care Workers, Front Line Workers and people above 18 years of age.

Government Scraps MP Quota For Kendriya Vidyalaya

  • The Union government has scrapped the quota through which members of Parliament could recommend names for admissions in Kendriya Vidyalayas (KV), according to the admission guidelines for 2022-23 and beyond.
  • The move comes a week after the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) put admissions under special provisions, including the MP quota, on hold till further orders. Under the KVS Special Dispensation Admission Scheme, a Member of Parliament had the power to recommend a maximum of 10 students from their respective constituencies in every academic year for admissions in classes 1 to 9.
  • There has been a long-pending demand from MPs to either do away with the quota or increase the number of students who can be admitted on the basis of recommendations.
  • According to the revised guidelines issued by the KVS, several amendments have been made under the special provisions section of the admission policy.
  • Other than the MP quota, the KVS has also removed other reservations, including 100 children of education ministry employees, children and dependent grandchildren of MPs and retired KV employees, and discretionary quota of school management committee chairman, among others.

100-Metre-tall Tower At ‘Akasavani’ FM Station

  • The Vice-President, M. Venkaiah Naidu will inaugurate the newly built 100-metre-tall tower at ‘Akasavani’ FM Station in Nellore, on 27th April. 
  • Vice President will visit  S. P. S. Nellore District on a three-day tour and participate in various programmes here.
  • He will also visit Alluru Mandal and inaugurate Devireddy Sarada Charitable Trust. It may be recalled that the radio station was inaugurated by Venkaiah Naidu on February 21, 2019.

Poshan Pakhwada-2022

  • Poshan Pakhwada-2022 has witnessed three crore activities across the nation. The Ministry of Women and Child Development celebrated the fourth ‘Poshan Pakhwada’ from 21st March to 4th of April. This year, ‘Poshan Pakhwada’ was focused around two broader areas  –  height and weight measurement of beneficiary children up to six years of age and activities concentrated around Gender Sensitive Water Management, Anaemia and Traditional Food for healthy mother and child especially in Tribal Areas.
  • The Ministry said, one of the key activities of the fortnight this year, focused on Gender Awareness on Water Management aiming at promoting the role of women in water governance, conservation and management through active sensitization by ‘Poshan Panchayats’ and Mother Groups.

Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav: Northeast Festival

  • Government will organise Northeast Festival across all the eight North Eastern States from tomorrow as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. Ministry of Development of North-East Region has said that the Seven-day Festival aims to showcase the achievements of Northeastern Region with the Spirit of – Hum Kisi Se Kam Nahi.
  • During this festival, the beauty of the Northeastern Region and its achievements in various fields will be highlighted. These programmes will cover all the areas which are critical to the development of the Northeast including infrastructure, investment potential, energy needs and role of women in the development of the Northeast.
  • The Ministry said, during the last eight years, the Northeastern Region has made impressive leads in connectivity. The connectivity in interior areas is being given a fillip through the Pradhan Mantri Gramin Sadak Yojna.

World Bank At The Rescue Of Sri Lanka

  • The World Bank has agreed to provide Sri Lanka with 600 million US dollars in financial assistance to help meet payment requirements for essential imports. Sri Lankan President’s media division said in a statement yesterday that the World Bank would release 400 million dollars “shortly”. According to the statement, the World Bank said that it would continue to help Sri Lanka to overcome the current economic crisis.
  • Sri Lanka’s worst financial crisis since independence in 1948 was caused by a drastic drop in its reserves that dropped 70 percent over the past two years, hitting 1.93 billion dollars at the end of March. This left Colombo struggling to pay for essentials, including fuel, medicines, and food.
  • Earlier this month, Sri Lanka kicked off talks with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for financial assistance. Before the IMF finalizes a program for Sri Lanka, the country needs 3 to 4 billion dollars in bridge financing to help meet its essential expenses.
  • India has helped Sri Lanka by assisting with 1.9 billion dollars. Sri Lanka’s Finance Minister Ali Sabry said Colombo would also seek assistance from the Asian Development Bank.
