G20 Ministerial Conference on Women’s Empowerment

Mission “Karmayogi” Digital Learning Facility

  • The National Programme for Civil Services Capacity Building (‘NPCSCB’) “Mission Karmayogi” was approved by the Government on 2nd September 2020 with the objective of enhancing governance through Civil Services Capacity Building.
  • NPCSCB has been carefully designed to lay the foundations for capacity building for Civil Servants so that they remain entrenched in Indian Culture and sensibilities and remain connected, with their roots, while they learn from the best institutions and practices across the world.
  • The training of Civil Servants at various Academies is being restructured to include optimum use of the digital learning platform of Integrated Government Online Training (iGOT).

BRICS Environment Ministers adopt the New Delhi Statement on Environment

  • At the 7thmeeting of the BRICS Environment Ministerial 2021, India stressed on the need for taking concrete collective global actions against global environment and climate challenge, guided by equity, national priorities and circumstances, and the principles of “Common but Differentiated Responsibilities and Respective Capabilities (CBDR-RC)”.
  • The meeting was held virtually under the chair of India and was participated by the Environment Ministers from the BRICS nations. The meeting was preceded by the BRICS Joint Working Group on Environment meeting on 26th August 2021.

  • About Making of the Constitution:
  • As part of ‘Azaadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’, on 75 years of India’s independence, Ministry of I&B is launching a series of e-books, for an entire year, on various aspects of the freedom struggle.
  • First in this series is ‘Making of the Constitution’. This will be followed by Integration of the Country, Women in Freedom Movement, Tribal Movements, Revolutionary/Gandhian Movements etc.

Children’s Climate Risk Index: UNICEF

  • The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in collaboration with Fridays for Future launched a report named ‘The Climate Crisis Is a Child Rights Crisis: Introducing the Children’s Climate Risk Index’.
  • It is the first comprehensive analysis of climate risk from a child’s perspective.
  • Earlier an analysis, based on Notre Dame Global Adaptation Initiative (ND-GAIN) index, had shown the impact of Climate Change on children across the world.
  • Children’s Climate Risk Index:
  • It ranks countries based on children’s exposure to climate and environmental shocks, such as Cyclones and Heatwaves, as well as their vulnerability to those shocks, based on their access to essential services.
  • Pakistan (14th), Bangladesh (15th), Afghanistan (25th) and India (26th) are among four South Asian countries where children are at extremely high risk of the impacts of the climate crisis.

India-Maldives ink Largest Ever Infrastructure Project

  • Afcons, an Indian company, has signed a contract for the largest-ever infrastructure project in Maldives which is the Greater Male Connectivity Project (GMCP).
  • The project is the result of bilateral consultation between India and the Maldives and has been under discussion since September 2019.
  • It will consist of a 6.74 km-long bridge and causeway link between Male and nearby islands of Villingli, Gulhifalhu and Thilafushi. It will use renewable energy.
  • The project is funded by a grant of USD 100 million and a Line of Credit (LOC) of USD 400 million from India.
  • It is not only the biggest project India is doing in the Maldives but also the biggest infrastructure project in the Maldives overall.
