RAKSHA MANTRI TO DELIVER KEYNOTE ADDRESS FOR PC LAL MEMORIAL LECTURE

Rajnath Singh, shall deliver the Keynote Address for the 37th Air Chief Marshal PC Lal Memorial Lecture on 05 May 2022. The lecture has been organised by the Air Force Association and is planned to be conducted at the Air Force Auditorium, Subroto Park, New Delhi
Air Chief Marshal PC Lal was commissioned in the IAF in 1939. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross during the Burma Campaign in World War II. He served as the Vice Chief of the Air Staff during the 1965 war. While on deputation to HAL in 1966, he served as the Chairman and Managing Director of HAL.
As the 7th Chief of the Air Staff during the 1971 war, his outstanding leadership proved to be a decisive factor for India’s victory and for the liberation of Bangladesh.
He was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 1966 and the Padma Vibhushan in 1972 for his contributions during the two wars. After retirement in 1973, he was appointed as the CMD of Indian Airlines and later chairman of Air India.

MAJOR GEN SANJAY PURI TAKES CHARGE AS ADDITIONAL DG UP NCC DIRECTORATE

Major General Sanjay Puri, SM, VSM took charge as the new Additional Director General of Uttar Pradesh NCC Directorate on 30 April 2022 from Maj Gen Rakesh Rana who superannuated after 37 years of service.
Major General Rakesh Rana was posted as Additional Director General, Uttar Pradesh NCC Directorate on 30 September 2019 and during his tenure the Uttar Pradesh NCC Directorate achieved 6th position in the Republic Day Camp 2022 and achieved Ist position in cultural competition among 17 NCC Directorates.
Major General Sanjay Puri, SM, VSM who assumed the duties of Additional Director General Uttar Pradesh NCC Directorate is a highly experienced officer. He has been instructor in Officers Training Academy, Chennai and has held several important appointments in the Army. He joins the Uttar Pradesh NCC directorate after a successful tenure at Army Headquarters New Delhi.

Chinese Warships Go Ballistic With New Mystery Missile

China continues to astound, and steal a march on its Western counterparts, with new types of weapons and missiles. The latest example of this occurred on April 19 when the People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) released a video clip depicting a hitherto unknown missile being fired from a Type 055 guided-missile cruiser.
- The new weapon is presumed by most commentators to be an anti-ship ballistic missile, which analysts refer to under the nomenclature of YJ-21. If the initial analysis of this YJ-21 is correct, then China becomes the first country in the world to operationally field such a missile from a naval vessel.
- The YJ-21 was fired from the warship Wuxi, a Type 055 cruiser that had been commissioned in Qingdao just a month earlier, in March. Its launch from an active-duty ship indicates the missile is almost certainly now in PLA service.
- No performance specifications are yet known of the YJ-21, but its range could speculatively be anywhere from 1,000 km to 1,500 km. The South China Morning Post, which is not always accurate in its reporting on the PLA, credits the YJ-21 with a terminal velocity of Mach 10, or ten times the speed of sound.

CURTAIN RAISER – NAVAL INVESTITURE CEREMONY 2022 TO BE HELD AT KOCHI ON 04 MAY 22

The Naval Investiture Ceremony – 2022 to felicitate Naval personnel who have demonstrated gallant acts, leadership, professional achievements and distinguished service of high order will be held at Naval Base, Kochi on 04 May 22.
Adm R Hari Kumar, CNS on behalf of the President of India, will confer the Gallantry and Distinguished Service awards to the recipients during the investiture ceremony.
During the ceremony, 31 awardees including 06 Nao Sena Medals (Gallantry), 08 Nao Sena Medals (Devotion to Duty), 17 Vishisht Seva Medals will be presented with medals. In addition, Sarvottam Jeevan Raksha Padak, Lt VK Jain Memorial Gold Medal, Capt Ravi Dhir Memorial Gold Medal, CNS Trophy for best Green Practice and Unit Citations will also be presented.

Amit Shah Inaugurated The National Intelligence Grid (NATGRID) Bengaluru Campus

Union Minister for Home and Cooperation, Shri Amit Shah inaugurated the National Intelligence Grid (NATGRID) Bengaluru premises.
He said security requirements today have changed significantly as compared to the earlier security challenges in terms of data, scope and complexity. Therefore, there is a need for legal and security agencies to have automated, secure and immediate access to information obtained from reliable sources.
The Home Minister said that the Union Government will soon be developing a national database to monitor hawala transactions, terrorist funding, counterfeit currency, narcotics, bomb threats, illegal arms smuggling and other terrorist activities.
The NATGRID CEO informed that the services of NATGRID solution will be available to 11 central agencies and police of all States and Union Territories. It will link user agencies with data holders, giving them access to real-time information needed for intelligence services and investigations. C-DAC Pune has been roped in as Technology Partner and IIT, Bhilai as Plan Management Consultant for the development of NATGRID solution.
