Statue of Equality

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Hyderabad tomorrow. He will visit the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics campus in Patancheru, Hyderabad, and kickstart the 50th Anniversary celebrations of the Institute. In the evening, Prime Minister will dedicate the ‘Statue of Equality’ in Hyderabad to the nation.
  • The 216-feet tall Statue of Equality commemorates the 11th-century Bhakti Saint Sri Ramanujacharya, who promoted the idea of equality in all aspects of living including faith, caste, and creed. The Statue is made of ‘panchaloha’, a combination of five metals.
  • These are gold, silver, copper, brass, and zinc. It is among one of the tallest metallic statues in sitting positions in the world. It is mounted on a 54-feet high base building, named ‘Bhadra Vedi’.
  • It has floors devoted to a Vedic digital library and research center, ancient Indian texts, a theatre, an educational gallery detailing many works of Sri Ramanujacharya. The statue has been conceptualized by Sri Chinna Jeeyar Swami of Sri Ramanujacharya Ashram.
  • Mr. Modi will also visit the identical recreations of 108 Divya Desams that surround the Statue of Equality.

Best Ministry Tableau For Republic Day 2022

  • Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) tableau is selected as the best central ministry tableau for Republic Day 2022. The tableau of Ministry of Civil Aviation showcased Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS) – UDAN (Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagrik) and the rich dividends it has been yielding. Conceptualized by the Ministry and implemented by AAI, the scheme has the objective of enhancing regional connectivity in an economically sustainable and affordable manner.
  • Launched in 2016, UDAN scheme aims to fulfil the aspirations of the common man by following the vision of ‘Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik’ with an enhanced aviation infrastructure and air connectivity in tier II and III cities. In a short span of 5 years, today 403 UDAN routes connect 65 underserved/unserved airports, including heliports and water aerodromes, and over 80 lakh people have benefited from it. UDAN scheme has immensely benefitted several sectors pan-India including Hilly States, North-Eastern region, and Islands.

Contribution Of Women In Agriculture

  • 173 women startups/ entrepreneurs have been supported under the “Innovation and Agri-Entrepreneurship Development” program.
  • As per the Census 2011 conducted by the Registrar General of India, the total number of women farmers as cultivators is 3.60 crore and agricultural labor is 6.15 crore in the country.

  • 50 Agri-Business Incubation Centers (ABICs) have been established and are operational in the ICAR network under the NAIF scheme. Potential women startups/ entrepreneurs can avail benefit from these programs.

Swachhta Saarthi Fellowship 2022

  • The Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India under its “Waste to Wealth” Mission announced the “Swachhta Saarthi Fellowship 2022” to empower young innovators who are engaged in community work of waste management, waste awareness campaigns, waste surveys etc. as Swachhta Saarthis and implement actions to reduce waste for a greener planet. The Waste to Wealth Mission is one of the nine national missions of the Prime Minister’s Science, Technology, and Innovation Advisory Council (PM-STIAC)
  • The three categories of awards under the fellowships are as below:
  • Category-A – Open to School students from 9th to 12th standards engaged in waste management community work. An amount of Rs.  500/- per month would be given as fellowship for a period of 1 year.
  • Category-B – Open to College students (UG, PG, Research students) engaged in waste management community work. An amount of Rs. 1,000/- per month would be given as fellowship for a period of 1 year.
  • Category-C – SHGs or sanitary workers. A maximum of 2 citizens from the same SHG can apply an amount of Rs. 2,000/- per month would be given as fellowship for a period of 1 year.

Revenue Deficit Grant Released To 17 States

  • The Department of Expenditure, Ministry of Finance, today released monthly Post Devolution Revenue Deficit (PDRD) Grant of Rs. 9,871 crore to 17 States.  This was the 11th instalment of the PDRD grant released to the States.
  • The Post Devolution Revenue Deficit Grants are provided to the States under Article 275 of the Constitution.  The grants are released to the States as per the recommendations of the Fifteenth Finance Commission to meet the gap in Revenue Accounts of the States post devolution. The Commission has recommended PDRD grants to 17 States and the same being released in equal monthly installments.
  • The eligibility of States to receive this grant and the quantum of grant was decided by the Commission based on the gap between assessment of revenue and expenditure of the State after considering the assessed devolution for the financial year 2021-22.  The Fifteenth Finance Commission has recommended a total Post Devolution Revenue Deficit Grant of Rs. 1,18,452  crore to 17 States in the financial year 2021-22. So far, an amount of Rs. 1,08,581 crore (91.6%)  has been released to eligible States as Post Devolution Revenue Deficit Grant in the current financial year.

Integration Of E-MANDIS Into E-NAM Platform

  • Since 31st March 2018, 415 new mandis have been integrated on National Agriculture Market (e-NAM) platform. As on 31st December 2021, 1000 mandis of 18 States and 03 Union Territories have been integrated with e-NAM platform. More than 1.72 Crore farmers and 2 lakh traders have registered themselves on e-NAM platform.
  • Government provides following support under e-NAM scheme:
  • e-NAM software is provided to States / UTs free of cost.
  • Department gives grant as one-time fixed cost to the States / UTs up to Rs. 75.00 lakh per mandi, for purchase of hardware, internet connection, assaying equipment and related infrastructure including cleaning, grading and packaging facilities and Bio-compost unit, to make the mandi ready for integration with e-NAM platform.
  • A trained staff (Mandi Analyst) is deputed at each mandi, for an initial period of one year to provide day to day hand holding support to stakeholders and train other mandi staff.
  • Helpdesk support: A toll free No. (1800-2700-224) and email support ([email protected]) is available to enable stakeholders to raise their query.
  • Online tutorials are available on www.enam.gov.in
  • Regular training of stakeholders (Farmers, Traders, FPOs, Mandi staff etc) are conducted to   create awareness and handholding regarding e-NAM portal.

National Agriculture Disaster Management Scheme

  • Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of India has launched a flagship network project “National Innovations in Climate Resilient Agriculture (NICRA)” aiming at strategic research on adaptation and mitigation, demonstration of technologies on farmers’ fields and creating awareness among farmers and other stakeholders. The following steps have been taken in the field of climate smart agriculture:
  • (i)  Developed climate resilient varieties for different abiotic and biotic stresses in major crops. So far 8 climate resilient varieties have been released in rice, green gram, maize and lentil;
  • (ii)  Developed and popularized 65 location-specific climate resilient/smart technologies for wider adoption among the farming communities;
  • (iii) Prepared 650 district agricultural contingency plans and sensitized State officials for preparedness through 54 State-level interface meetings;
  • (iv) Developed, evaluated and commercialized implements (raised bed planter-cum-herbicide applicator, maize harvester, zero till planter, etc.) for small farm mechanization suiting to dryland ecologies;
  • (v) Climate smart technologies developed involving farmers in risk assessment and adaptation techniques in 151 clusters covering 446 villages, with a footprint of 2,13,421 households, on 2,35,874 hectares of land;
  • (vi) Capacity building programs have been taken up involving 5.15 lakhs comprising researchers, farmers, entrepreneurs, line department officials, policy makers and NGOs in the field of climate resilient agriculture.
  • Further, the climate smart agriculture is promoted under the Central Sector Schemes of Pradhan Mantri Krishi SinchayeeYojna (PMKSY), Parmparagat Krishi Vikas Yojna (PKVY), Soil Health Mission (SHM), National Bomboo Mission (NBM) and Sub Mission on Agro Forestry (SMAF).
