100 Years of Chauri Chaura Incident

  • On 1st August 1920, Gandhiji had launched the Non-Cooperation Movement against the government.
  • It involved using swadeshi and boycott of foreign goods, especially machine-made cloth, and legal, educational, and administrative institutions, “refusing to assist a ruler who misrules”.
  • Chauri Chaura is a town in the Gorakhpur district of Uttar Pradesh.
  • On 4th February 1922, this town witnessed a violent incident – a large crowd of peasants set fire to a police station that killed 22 policemen. Due to this incident, Mahatma Gandhi called off the Non-Cooperation Movement (1920-22).
  • Prime Minister Modi paid tribute to the heroes of the freedom struggle on completion of the hundred years of the Chauri Chaura incident.

India Wins The 5th Under-19 World Cup Title

  • For the fifth time in history, India are the Under-19 World Champions.
  • Yash Dhull led his inspirational unit of boys gallantly as India continued to write history, defeating England by four wickets in the final to be crowned winners of the 2022 Under-19 Cricket World Cup in Antigua.
  • It was during the wee hours of Sunday at home that India has crowned world champions, emerging supreme in their ninth final across 14 editions.

National Mourns In Memory Of Lata Mangeshkar

  • Legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar passed away at the Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai today, February 6, 2022. The veteran singer, popularly known as the Melody Queen, was 92. She had been admitted to the hospital on 8 January after having tested positive for COVID-19.
  • Government has announced two-day national mourning in memory of Bharat Ratna Lata Mangeshkar. As a mark of respect, the national flag will fly at half-mast for two days. A state funeral was accorded to the legendary singer, who received the Bharat Ratna, in 2001.
  • Lata Mangeshkar recorded her first playback song for a Marathi film, Kiti Hasaal, at the age of 13, and even acted in a Marathi film, Pahili Mangalagaur in the year 1942. In the year 1946, she recorded her first Hindi film playback song for Aap Ki Seva Mein, directed by Vasant Jogalekar.

810th URS Of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti

  • ‘Chadar’ was offered on behalf of Prime Minister at the Ajmer Sharif Dargah of Sufi Saint Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti on 810th Urs.
  • The Urs festival is an annual festival held at Ajmer in Rajasthan which commemorates the death anniversary of Sufi saint Moinuddin Chishti.
  • Moinuddin Hasan Chishti was born in Sijistan (modern-day Sistan) in Iran in 1141-42 CE.
  • His shrine in Ajmer has been visited by rulers like Muhammad bin Tughlaq, Sher Shah Suri, Akbar, Jahangir, Shah Jahan, Dara Shikoh, and Aurangzeb.
  • The term ‘Sufi’ is probably derived from the Arabic ‘suf’ word which means ‘one who wears wool’. This is because woolen clothes were generally associated with ascetics. Another possible origin of the word is ‘safa’ which means purity in Arabic.
  • Sufism is a mystical form of Islam, a school of practice that focuses on the spiritual search for God and shuns materialism. Four Sufi Silsilas (Orders) are prominent in India: Chishti, Suhrawardi, Naqshbandi, and Qadiriya.

National Air Sports Policy 2022

  • In order to promote air sports in the country, the Government has prepared a draft National Air Sports Policy (NASP 2022). The draft policy was released on 01 January 2022 for public comments and last date for submitting the feedback was 31 January 2022. The Government is examining the comments received.
  • As per the draft NASP 2022, some of the measures envisaged to make India a global hub for air sports are as follows:
  • The policy will cover most of the air sports like aerobatics, aero modelling, amateur-built and experimental aircraft, ballooning, drones gliding, hang gliding and paragliding micro-lighting and Para-motoring skydiving and vintage aircraft.
  • The Government may develop a simple, stakeholder-friendly and effective governance structure with significant involvement of air sports experts.
  • In line with the Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan, domestic design, development and manufacturing of air sports equipment will be promoted.
  • Government will endeavour to enhance the participation of Indians in global air sports events.
  • Schools, colleges, and universities will be encouraged to have air sports included in their curriculum.
  • For the year 2021-22, a sum of Rs. One crore has been allocated to promote air sports in the country. Once NASP 2022 is finalised and the proposed Air Sports Federation of India (ASFI) is constituted, the Government may release the funds based on need and justification.

NITI Aayog’s Fintech Open Summit

  • To showcase the importance of the fintech industry, NITI Aayog, in collaboration with PhonePe, AWS, and EY, has organized a three-week-long virtual summit, ‘Fintech Open’, from 7–28 February. The summit was inaugurated today by the Union Minister for Railways, Communications, and Electronics and IT Ashwini Vaishnav in the presence of NITI Aayog Vice-Chairman Dr. Rajiv Kumar.
  • A first-of-its-kind initiative, Fintech Open will bring together regulators, fintech professionals and enthusiasts, industry leaders, the start-up community, and developers to collaborate, exchange ideas and innovate.
  • While flagging off the event, Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw said, ‘Under the leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, we believe in creating open platforms, such as Cowin and UPI, for healthcare, logistics and other sectors. An open platform is created using public investment, wherein numerous private entrepreneurs, start-ups and developers can join to create new solutions. For example, today, 270 banks are connected with the UPI and many entrepreneurs and start-ups have provided solutions that have helped increase the country’s fintech adoption rate—which is the highest globally at 87%.’
  • Fintech Open aims to create an immersive learning experience. It has three objectives:
  • Encourage an open ecosystem across the fintech industry
  • Foster innovation and growth
  • Ensure financial inclusion and leverage new models like Account Aggregator to unleash the next wave of fintech innovation.

Intensified Mission Indradhanush (IMI) 4.0 Launched

  • “India is implementing the largest immunization program globally where we annually cover more than 3 crore pregnant women and 2.6 crore children through the Universal Immunization Programme (UIP)”. Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare stated while launching Intensified Mission Indradhanush (IMI) 4.0 virtually today in presence of health officials of States and Union Territories. Shri Keshab Mahanta, Health Minister of Assam, and Shri Rushikesh Patel, Health Minister of Gujarat virtually participated.
  • Intensified Mission Indradhanush 4.0 will have three rounds and will be conducted in 416 districts (including 75 districts identified for Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav) across 33 States/Uts in the country. In the first round (Feb-April 2022), 11 states will conduct IMI 4.0. These are Assam, Uttarakhand, Gujarat, Jammu & Kashmir, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Tripura, and Chhattisgarh. The others (22 states) will conduct the rounds from April to May 2022. These states/UTs include Himachal Pradesh, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh, Odisha, Bihar, Puducherry, Delhi, Punjab, Goa, Tamil Nadu, Haryana, Telangana, Jharkhand, Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, A & N Islands.
  • Dr. Mandaviya noted that while pace of routine immunization has slowed down due to COVID pandemic, IMI 4.0 will immensely contribute in filling the gaps and make lasting gains towards Universal Immunization. It will ensure that Routine Immunization (RI) services reach the unvaccinated and partially vaccinated children and pregnant women, he added.
  • Three rounds of IMI 4.0 have been planned to catch up on the gaps that might have emerged due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The activity will be conducted in 416 districts across 33 states/UTs. These districts have been identified based on vaccination coverage as per the latest National Family Health Survey-5 report, Health Management Information System (HMIS) data and burden of vaccine preventable diseases. The districts suggested by states have also been included. Considering the recent upsurge of COVID-19 cases, states have been given the flexibility of carrying out the activity either from February 2022- April 2022 or from March to May 2022. The first round will start from 7th February 2022 onwards, the second will be from 7th March 2022, and the third round will be from 4th April 2022. Unlike the past, each round will be conducted for seven days, including RI days, Sundays, and public holidays. However, considering the recent peak in COVID cases, States have been accorded the flexibility of conducting the drives from Mach to May 2022. 11 of the 33 states have planned to go ahead with the February – April 2022 schedule.
