Rajnath Singh & His Vietnamese Counterpart General Phan Van Giang Hold Bilateral Talks In Hanoi 

  • Rajnath Singh held bilateral talks with Vietnam’s Minister of National Defence General Phan Van Giang in Hanoi on June 08, 2022. Wide-ranging discussions on effective and practical initiatives to further expand bilateral defence engagements and regional & global issues were held b/w the two sides.
  • The two Defence Ministers also signed the ‘Joint Vision Statement on India-Vietnam Defence Partnership towards 2030’, which will significantly enhance the scope and scale of existing defence cooperation.
  • A Memorandum of Understanding on Mutual Logistics Support was also inked in the presence of both the Ministers.
  • Both Ministers also agreed on early finalisation of $US 500 million Defence Line of Credit extended to Vietnam.
  • The Raksha Mantri also announced gifting two simulators and monetary grants towards setting up of Language and IT Lab at Air Force Officers Training School for capacity building of the Vietnamese Armed Forces.
  • India had established the Consul General’s office in Hanoi as early as 1956.
  • Vietnam established its diplomatic mission in 1972.
  • India and Vietnam agreed to strengthen their strategic partnership “in line with India’s Indo-Pacific Oceans Initiative (IPOI) and the ASEAN’s Outlook on Indo-Pacific to achieve shared security, prosperity and growth for all in the region.”

Funding Under Technology Development Fund Scheme Of DRDO Enhanced To Rs 50 Crore Per Project

  • Rajnath Singh has approved enhancement of funding under Technology Development Fund scheme of MOD to Rs 50 crore per project from Rs 10 crore. The TDF scheme, executed by DRDO supports indigenous development of components, products, systems and technologies by MSMEs and start-ups.
  • It may be recalled that 25 percent of defence R&D budget was earmarked for private industry, start-ups and academia in Union Budget 2022-23. The enhanced funding is in line with the budget announcement, and it will give further boost the vision of ‘Aatmanirbharta in defence’.
  • The TDF Scheme aims to provide a major fillip to the defence manufacturing sector by encouraging the industry to innovate and develop defence technologies in order to place India on a self-reliance trajectory.

Raksha Rajya Mantri Shri Ajay Bhatt Visits Combined Defence Services Topper Himanshu Pandey’s House

  • Raksha Rajya Mantri Shri Ajay Bhatt visited the home of Himanshu Pandey, who secured first rank in the prestigious Combined Defence Services (CDS) examination, at Haldwani, Uttarakhand on June 07, 2022. The Raksha Rajya Mantri congratulated Himanshu for achieving the feat despite hardships and wished him a bright future. He said, Himanshu made not just Haldwani, but the whole of Uttarakhand proud.
    • Shri Ajay Bhatt commended the CDS topper’s dedication and hard work, stating that it will be a source of inspiration for other young students as well. He also lauded Himanshu’s parents for ensuring that their son received education even in difficult circumstances.
    • Himanshu Pandey, a 22-year-old engineering graduate from Haldwani, Uttarakhand, whose father works as a driver, has secured All India Rank (AIR) 1 in the Combined Defence Services (CDS) examination conducted by the Union Public Service Commission, results of which were declared on Friday. Pandey has been selected for Indian Military Academy (IMA) in Dehradun.
    • UPSC has recommended a total of 142 candidates this time for admission to the IMA, INA and Air Force Academy And Himanshu is at the top rank to be selected for the Indian Military Academy (IMA) in Dehradun.

OTA Gaya Passing Out Parade To Be Held On 11 June 2022

  • Indian Army OTA Gaya Passing Out Parade, Spring Term 2022. 56 Indian GCs & 08 GCs from Friendly Foreign Countries will be passing out from the portals of OTA, Gaya on 11 Jun 2022. The occasion will be solemnised by the proud parents of the Passing Out Course. Cadets of SCO 48th course and TES 39th course will be passing out.
  • Officers Training Academy (OTA) Gaya:  OTA Gaya is a premier Pre-Commission Training Academy (PCTA) of the Indian Army, established in the erstwhile location of Army Service Corps (ASC) Centre (North).
  • Gaya Military Station, in the pre-independence days, had a historical distinction of being the Operation Centre of Sir Archibald Wavell, Commander-in-Chief of British India Army who steered the initial operations of the Burma Campaign here. Defence Infra Being Set Up By China Near Its Border With India Alarming: US Commander

  • The destabilising and corrosive behaviour of Chinese Community Party (CCP) in the Indo-Pacific region is simply not helpful and some of the defence infrastructure that is being set up by China near its border with India is alarming, US Army’s Pacific Commanding General Charles A. Flynn said.
  • Last month, it came to light that China is constructing a second bridge in an area held by it around the strategically key Pangong Tso lake in eastern Ladakh and it could help its military to quickly mobilise its troops in the region.
  • China has maritime border disputes with various countries in the Indo-Pacific region such as Vietnam and Japan.
  • The western theatre command of the Chinese Army borders India.
  • Vision of Indo-Pacific: The US will seek an Indo-Pacific that is free and open, connected, prosperous, secure and resilient.
