Inno-Yoddha 2024-25

  • The Indian Army held its annual Idea and Innovation Competition — Inno-Yoddha 2024-25 — at the Manekshaw Centre here. The event presided over by Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi celebrated in-house innovations aimed at enhancing operational efficiency, logistics, and training capabilities.
  • According to an army official, 75 innovations, selected through rigorous evaluation from unit to Command Headquarters levels, were fielded this year.
  • Among them, 22 outstanding innovations were showcased and felicitated during the event, which will now proceed towards production under the Army Design Bureau’s guidance, aligning with the Indian Army’s commitment to fostering an ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’, the official said.
  • This year, a total of 75 innovations from diverse domains across the Indian Army were fielded, after the selection starting from unit level to formation level and finally the respective Command HQs.

India, Vietnam Hold Third Security Dialogue

  • India and Vietnam on Thursday held the third India-Vietnam Security Dialogue in Ha Noi, Vietnam.
  • The dialogue facilitated an exchange of views on global and regional security issues, as well as the discussions on strengthening cooperation in areas like countering terrorism; combating organised crime; and sharing of information between law enforcement agencies.
  • The two sides exchanged views on global and regional security and the implementation of aspects of the Action Plan for the India – Viet Nam Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
  • They discussed strengthening cooperation in areas such as countering terrorism; combating organised crime; and sharing of information between law enforcement agencies.
  • India initially maintained Consulate-level relations with the then North Vietnam and South Vietnam and later established full diplomatic relations with unified Vietnam on January 7, 1972.
  • Bilateral relations between the two countries were elevated to the level of ‘Strategic Partnership‘ during the visit of Vietnam’s Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung to India in July 2007.

Arunachal Govt, Indian Army sign MoA

  • A Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) was signed between the Arunachal Pradesh government and the Indian Army for the maintenance and upkeep of the Major Ralengnao Bob Khathing Museum of Valor.
  • The MoA was officially signed between Tawang Deputy Commissioner Kangki Darang and Brigadier V S Rajput of the 190 Mountain Brigade.
  • This significant agreement outlines the arrangement for the management of the Museum, ensuring that it will be overseen entirely by the Indian Army.
  • Major Ralengnao ‘Bob’ Khathing, an Indian Army officer, led a mission in 1951 to assert India’s sovereignty over Tawang, which was under Chinese influence. His leadership ensured Tawang’s incorporation into India, marking a significant chapter in the country’s history.

Centre Clears 5 Acquisition Deals

  • In a significant push to improve India’s defence preparedness, the Central government on Tuesday approved five military acquisition proposals worth Rs 21,772 crores.
  • The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) headed by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh approved the procurement of 31 new water jet fast attack crafts (NWJFACs) for the Indian Navy.The DAC also gave its assent for the purchase of an Electronic Warfare Suite (EWS), including a self-protection jammer pod, Radar Warning Receiver (RWR) and its associated equipment for Su-30 MKI fighters of the Indian Air Force. This system will enhance the operational capabilities of the Su-30 MKI, which is the frontline fighter aircraft of the IAF, the Ministry of Defence said.
  • The council also gave a green light for procurement of 120 Fast Interceptor Craft (FIC-1) which are capable of performing multiple roles, including escorting aircraft carriers, destroyers, frigates, and submarines for coastal defence.The DAC also approved the procurement of six Advanced Light Helicopters (ALH) M helicopters for the Indian Coast Guard to strengthen coastal security and surveillance.
  • It has also accorded approval for the overhaul of T-72 and T-90 tanks, the BMP of the Indian Army’s artillery units.

Russia Notifies US of Drills in Mediterranean

  • Russia has informed the United States about its military drills in the eastern Mediterranean Sea in order to avoid possible “incidents”, the Russian Defence Ministry said on Thursday.
  • The information was conveyed during a phone call between the chiefs of staff of both countries, General Valery Gerasimov and Air Force General C.Q. Brown.
  • “This information was given in order to prevent possible incidents in connection with the presence of U.S. and NATO ships in the vicinity of the Russian exercise area,” the ministry said in a statement.
  • The U.S. military reported on Wednesday that the rare conversation between the two top officials had taken place last week.
