- The results for the best Marching Contingents and Tableaux of Republic Day Parade 2025 have been announced.
- Three panels of judges were constituted to assess the performance of Marching Contingents from the Services & CAPF/other auxiliary forces and tableaux from various States/UTs & Ministries/Departments of the Central Government.

Keel Laying of Seventh Ship
- Keel Laying of the seventh ship (BY 529, Machilipatnam) of the Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Watercraft (ASW SWC) project was undertaken on 29 Jan 25.
- Contract for building eight ASW SWC ships was awarded to Cochin Shipyard Limited by the Ministry of Defence on 30 Apr 19.
- The ships known as the ‘Mahe’ class, will be equipped with indigenously developed, state-of-the-art underwater sensors, and are envisaged to undertake anti-submarine operations in coastal waters as well as Low Intensity Maritime Operations (LIMO) and Mine Laying Operations.
F-35 Fighter Jet Crashed
- An F-35 fighter jet crashed during a training exercise at Eielson Air Force Base in Alaska, US, on Tuesday afternoon, with the pilot successfully ejecting from the aircraft and reported to be in stable condition.
- The crash occurred at approximately 12:49 pm local time, as the F-35 was approaching the landing phase of its flight. Col Paul Townsend, commander of the 354th Fighter Wing, confirmed the pilot had declared an inflight emergency due to a malfunction before ejecting safely.
- The F-35A is the US Air Force’s “latest fifth-generation fighter,” and is known for its stealth capabilities and long-range performance, with a single mission able to cover much of the Northern Hemisphere.
CCS clears Army’s Rs 10,000 crore Pinaka rocket deal
- In a mega success for indigenous weapon systems, the Cabinet Committee on Security has cleared the project to buy over Rs 10,000 crore worth of ammunition for the Indian Army’s Pinaka multi-barrel rocket launcher systems.
- The Indian Army project to buy the Rs 10,000 crore plus ammunition including the Area Denial Munitions and Pinaka Enhanced Range rockets was cleared by the CCS.
- The project would be divided between the rocket manufacturer Solar Industries of Nagpur and the former Ordnance Factory Board company Munitions India Limited (MIL).
- The DRDO is already in the advanced stages of making a 120 km strike version of the Pinaka rockets and is expected to carry out its first test in the next financial year.
- The rockets cleared today by the CCS have a range of around 45 Kms and can be very effective at both the Pakistan and China border.
Cabinet Approves ‘National Critical Mineral Mission’
- The Union Cabinet, chaired by PM Narendra Modi, has approved the launch of the National Critical Mineral Mission (NCMM) with an expenditure of Rs.16,300 crore and expected investment of Rs.18,000 crore by PSUs, etc.
- As part of the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative and recognizing the indispensable role of critical minerals in high-tech industries, clean energy, and defence, the Government of India has undertaken several initiatives over the past two years to address challenges in the critical minerals sector.
- There is a need to establish an effective framework for India’s self-reliance in the critical mineral sector. In line with this vision, the Finance Minister announced the setting up of the Critical Mineral Mission in the Union Budget for 2024-25 on 23rd July 2024.
Garden Research Shipbuilders & Apollo Micro Systems
- Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers and Apollo Micro Systems have entered into an MoU for a period of five years to establish a business partnership for the joint research and development (R&D), co-production, export of Underwater Weapons & Vehicles, Underwater Mines, Underwater Communication Systems and Air Defence Systems and supply of advanced weapons and electronic systems for both defence and non-defence industries.
- This collaboration is aimed at the development and production of cutting-edge technologies, including Underwater Weapons and Vehicles, Underwater Mines and Communication Systems and Air Defence Systems and Vehicles, a statement from Apollo Micro Systems said.
