K-6 Hypersonic Missile
- DRDO is developing the K-6 hypersonic missile for submarine launch, with trials expected soon.
- The K-6 hypersonic ballistic missile, a submarine-launched ballistic missile (SLBM), is poised to enhance India’s naval arsenal.
- The hypersonic missile, which can carry both conventional and nuclear warheads, will be a formidable asset for the Indian Navy.
- K-6 SLBM can be launched from submarines and can target enemies at a speed of 7.5 Mach (approximately 9,261 kilometres per hour).
- K-6 missile boasts an impressive range of 8,000 kilometres, covering the entirety of Pakistan. India has previously tested the K-3 (1,000 to 2,000 km range), K-4 (3,500 km range), and K-5 (5,000 to 6,000 km range) SLBMs, with the K-4 and K-5 already inducted into the Navy.
- The K-6 SLBM is being developed at DRDO’s Advanced Naval Systems Laboratory in Hyderabad.
Sabal-50
- The IIT Kanpur is on the verge of a groundbreaking achievement in military aviation technology with the development of the Sabal-50, touted as one of the most advanced drones ever developed in India and potentially the most powerful of its kind globally.
- The Sabal-50 represents a significant advancement over its predecessor, the Sabal-20, which has already been successfully inducted into the Indian Army.
- While the Sabal-20 demonstrated impressive capabilities with its 20-kilogram payload capacity, the Sabal-50 takes performance to unprecedented levels. Weighing approximately 150 kilograms, this formidable aircraft can carry payloads of up to 50 kilograms.
Indra Signs Strategic Agreement With AXISCADES
- Indra, a leading Spanish defence and aerospace company, has entered into a strategic agreement with Indian technology firm AXISCADES to jointly manufacture advanced aerospace and defence systems in India.
- The MoU was formally signed at the Paris Air Show in Le Bourget on June 16, 2025, by Indra CEO José Vicente de los Mozos and AXISCADES Chairman Dr. Sampath Ravi Narayanan, in the presence of senior executives from both organisations.
- Under the agreement, AXISCADES will locally produce several of Indra’s high-tech solutions, including antennas for Tactical Air Navigation Systems (TACAN), Distance Measuring Equipment and sophisticated aircraft countermeasure systems intended to protect against missile threats such as MANPADS.
- The agreement also opens avenues for joint innovation in Maritime Patrol Aircraft (MPA) solutions and potential partnerships in strategic DRDO CABS programs, including the Medium Range Maritime Reconnaissance (MRMR) and Multi-Mission Maritime Aircraft (MMMA) initiatives.
Japan Unveiled Its Mobile Hypersonic Missile
- Japan has unveiled and begun deploying its Hyper Velocity Guided Projectile (HVGP), a mobile hypersonic missile system that marks a significant evolution in the nation’s defence strategy.
- Developed by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries under the guidance of Japan’s Advanced Technology and Logistics Agency (ATLA), the HVGP is designed to travel at speeds exceeding Mach 5, utilising a hypersonic glide vehicle (HGV) that manoeuvres within the upper atmosphere.
- The initial Block-1 version offers a range of 500–900 kilometres, while future Block 2A and 2B variants—expected by 2027 and 2030—will extend operational reach to 2,000 and 3,000 kilometres, respectively, enabling deep-strike missions across East Asia.
