ICC Suspends USA Cricket Over Governance Failures
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has suspended USA Cricket’s membership with immediate effect due to ongoing governance and compliance issues. The announcement was made on 23 September 2025, after the ICC Board noted repeated violations of its constitutional requirements.
Key reasons cited for the suspension include:
- Failure to establish a proper governance framework
- Lack of progress in securing recognition as a National Governing Body by the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC)
- Reputational damage to the sport, both in the U.S. and globally
The ICC stressed that while the decision was unfortunate, it was necessary to protect the sport’s long-term future, especially as cricket prepares for its return to the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics (LA28).
Founded in 1909 as the Imperial Cricket Conference by representatives from Australia, England, and South Africa, the ICC was renamed in 1965 and adopted its present name in 1987. The body is headquartered in Dubai, UAE.
