Induction of 11th ACTCM Barge (LSAM 25)
The Indian Navy inducted its 11th Ammunition Cum Torpedo Cum Missile (ACTCM) Barge, named LSAM 25 (Yard 135), during a ceremony held on 17 October 2025 at the Naval Dockyard, Mumbai. The event was graced by Commodore Sumeet Vishnu Shidore, General Manager (Refit), ND (Mumbai), as the Chief Guest.
The contract for building and delivering 11 ACTCM Barges was signed with M/s Suryadipta Projects Pvt Ltd, a Thane-based MSME shipyard, on 5 March 2021. The barges were indigenously designed in collaboration with an Indian ship design firm and successfully model tested at the Naval Science and Technological Laboratory (NSTL), Visakhapatnam.
These barges are a vital addition to the Navy’s logistics capability, enabling efficient transportation, loading, and unloading of ammunition and other articles to naval platforms both at jetties and in outer harbours.
Mahindra Group and Embraer Partnership for C-390 Millennium
The Mahindra Group and Embraer Defense & Security of Brazil have entered into a strategic cooperation agreement to jointly offer the C-390 Millennium aircraft for the Indian Air Force’s Medium Transport Aircraft (MTA) programme.
This agreement builds upon a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in February 2024, expanding their collaboration into areas like marketing, industrialisation, and supply-chain development.
The plan aims to establish local manufacturing, assembly, and maintenance facilities in India, aligning with the ‘Make in India’ initiative. Both companies will also coordinate with India’s defence ecosystem to identify suitable partners.
Additionally, Mahindra Aerostructures has been awarded contracts by Airbus Helicopters to manufacture the main fuselage for H125 and H130 light helicopters. Mahindra Defence Systems, established in 2012, already produces armoured and tactical vehicles for the Indian Armed Forces, including the Armado (ALSV) and Mine-Protected Vehicles.
BEML Ltd Partners with Kineco Ltd
BEML Limited has announced a strategic partnership with Kineco Limited, a leading Indian composite technology company, to develop advanced composite materials for aerospace and defence sectors.
The MoU was formalised during the 16th International Railway Equipment Exhibition (IREE) in New Delhi. The partnership will focus on producing materials such as Carbon Fibre Reinforced Polymer (CFRP), Glass Fibre Reinforced Polymer (GFRP), honeycomb cores, foams, and bonding consumables.
This collaboration strengthens India’s push towards self-reliance and supports the Atmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India initiatives by enhancing indigenous production of high-performance materials and technologies.
India and Central Asia Discuss Stability in Afghanistan
India’s National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval met with NSAs from the five Central Asian nations to discuss strategies for promoting stability and peace in Afghanistan following the Taliban’s takeover.
The meeting aimed to establish a joint framework for addressing security threats, connectivity, and economic development in the region. Participants emphasised the importance of regional cooperation in fields like digital infrastructure, artificial intelligence, and space technology.
On the sidelines, Ajit Doval held separate discussions with senior security officials from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, and Uzbekistan, and also met Kyrgyz President Sadyr Zhaparov.
India to Spend $7.4 Billion on Fighter Jet Engines
India is projected to invest approximately ₹65,400 crore (US $7.44 billion) to procure fighter jet engines for aircraft under development until 2035, according to S. V. Ramana Murthy, Director of the Gas Turbine Research Establishment (GTRE).
The country will require around 1,100 engines for various indigenous fighter programmes. Efforts are underway to co-develop an advanced engine with an international partner for India’s 5th Generation Stealth Fighter, the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA).
Global aerospace giants Safran (France), Rolls-Royce (UK), and General Electric (USA) have expressed interest in collaborating. The prototype of AMCA is expected to be rolled out by 2028.
This initiative also marks the first time private companies will be allowed to bid for fighter jet engine production in India, reducing the burden on Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL).
