World Radio Day 2026
World Radio Day will be observed on 13 February 2026, highlighting radio as one of the most trusted and accessible public service media platforms. The date commemorates the launch of United Nations Radio in 1946, which played a crucial role in promoting global dialogue and cooperation after World War II.
The idea to celebrate this day was approved by UNESCO during its 36th General Conference in 2011, and later endorsed by the United Nations General Assembly in 2012, officially declaring 13 February as World Radio Day.
The 2026 theme, “Radio and Artificial Intelligence: AI is a tool, not a voice,” underlines the importance of using AI responsibly while ensuring that human values remain at the core of broadcasting.
All India Radio’s Contribution
In India, All India Radio (AIR), popularly known as Akashvani, was established in 1936 and functions under Prasar Bharati. Guided by the motto “Bahujan Hitaya, Bahujan Sukhaya” (for the welfare and happiness of the masses), AIR reaches nearly 99% of India’s population and covers around 92% of its geographical area.
AIR operates 591 broadcasting centres and airs programmes in 23 languages and 182 dialects, ensuring inclusivity and cultural representation.
Adding to India’s radio legacy, Ram Singh Bouddh from Amroha, Uttar Pradesh, earned recognition from Guinness World Records in 2025 for owning 1,257 radios — the largest such collection in the world. His museum showcases the journey of radio technology in India.
National Women’s Day 2026 – India
India observes National Women’s Day every year on 13 February to mark the birth anniversary of Sarojini Naidu, one of the most inspiring leaders of the freedom movement and a champion of women’s empowerment.
Born in Hyderabad on 13 February 1879, she displayed extraordinary talent from a young age. She later earned the title “Nightingale of India” (Bharat Kokila) for her lyrical and patriotic poetry.
The Government of India designated this date as National Women’s Day in recognition of her contributions to literature, politics, and social reform.
Some of her renowned literary works include:
- The Golden Threshold
- The Bird of Time
- The Broken Wing
- The Gift of India
Her life continues to inspire generations to work toward equality and nation-building.

The award carries a grant of $100,000, which Dr Haripriya Aravind and Dr R. Venkatesh have chosen to donate back to the Aravind Eye Care System to strengthen its charitable initiatives.
- Dr Haripriya Aravind serves as Chief of Cataract and Intraocular Lens (IOL) Services.

PM Modi Launches Seva Teerth
On 13 February 2026, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Seva Teerth in New Delhi, marking a significant reform in India’s administrative framework.
The newly built complex houses the:
- Prime Minister’s Office (PMO)
- National Security Council Secretariat (NSCS)
- Cabinet Secretariat
By bringing these institutions under one roof, Seva Teerth aims to enhance coordination, strengthen security, reduce delays, and promote integrated governance.
The complex carries the motto “Nagriko Devo Bhava” (Citizens are akin to God), reflecting a citizen-centric governance approach.
Historically, the PMO began as the Prime Minister’s Secretariat in 1947, gained formal status in 1964, and was renamed the Prime Minister’s Office in 1977. The historic South Block, completed in 1931, once housed key administrative offices and witnessed India’s first Cabinet meeting after Independence under Jawaharlal Nehru.
