India AI Impact Summit 2026: Deepening Tech Collaboration with Israel
The Embassy of Israel in New Delhi has announced that a high-profile Israeli delegation will participate in the India AI Impact Summit 2026, beginning on 16 February in New Delhi. The visit highlights the strengthening partnership between India and Israel, particularly in emerging technologies and innovation-driven sectors.
The delegation will be led by Ilan Fluss, former ambassador and EDTs Policy Coordinator at Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The team includes senior officials, technology entrepreneurs, researchers, and policy experts, all focused on expanding cooperation between the two nations in artificial intelligence and allied domains.
Key areas of engagement at the summit will include AI development, climate resilience, ESG investments, digital governance frameworks, and responsible technological innovation. Discussions are expected to explore AI solutions for climate adaptation, precision agriculture, digital public infrastructure, workforce transformation, and ethical governance mechanisms for emerging technologies. The summit is poised to become a major platform for advancing India–Israel collaboration in high-impact sectors.
Safran Signals Engine Manufacturing Push in India
French aerospace major Safran, known for manufacturing the M-88 engines that power the Dassault Rafale, has expressed readiness to establish an engine assembly line in India. The proposal comes amid negotiations between India and France for the purchase of 114 additional Rafale fighter jets.
Under the proposed arrangement, Safran would not only assemble M-88 engines domestically but also integrate Indian suppliers into its production ecosystem. This initiative is expected to support India’s defence manufacturing ambitions by encouraging technology transfer, strengthening local supply chains, and promoting indigenous aerospace capabilities.
India’s Defence Ministry recently granted preliminary approval for multiple high-value acquisitions, including additional Rafale jets and the Boeing P-8I maritime patrol aircraft. These clearances have accelerated negotiations, particularly ahead of the upcoming visit of Emmanuel Macron to India.
The induction of 36 Rafale jets in 2020 significantly enhanced the operational capabilities of the Indian Air Force, especially along sensitive borders. Expanding the fleet beyond 150 aircraft would further reinforce India’s air superiority amid evolving regional security dynamics.
Defence Acquisition Council Clears 288 S-400 Missiles
The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, has approved the procurement of 288 S-400 missiles from Russia at an estimated cost of ₹10,000 crore. The decision is aimed at replenishing stocks and strengthening India’s air defence preparedness.
The Indian Air Force has proposed acquiring five additional S-400 squadrons, complemented by Pantsir short-range air defence systems, to establish a two-tier air defence shield capable of countering aircraft, drones, and other aerial threats.
The Indian Army has also received approval for the procurement of Vibhav anti-tank mines and modernization upgrades for Armoured Recovery Vehicles, T-72 tanks, and BMP-II Infantry Combat Vehicles to ensure combat readiness.
Naval approvals include a 4 MW Marine Gas Turbine-based Electric Power Generator and additional Boeing P-8I aircraft to enhance maritime surveillance and operational redundancy.
Tarique Rahman Poised to Lead Bangladesh
After spending 17 years in exile in the United Kingdom, Tarique Rahman, leader of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), is set to become Bangladesh’s next Prime Minister following a decisive election victory.
According to unofficial results from the Election Commission and party representatives, Rahman secured wins in Dhaka-17 and Bogura-6 constituencies. The BNP contested 292 of the 300 parliamentary seats, forming alliances for the remaining constituencies, and emerged as the dominant political force against an 11-party bloc led by Jamaat-e-Islami.
Rahman, often described as a powerful figure behind the scenes during the BNP-led government between 2001 and 2006, is now expected to formally assume leadership. One of the central challenges for his administration will be recalibrating relations with India. Under former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, bilateral ties were particularly close, but relations have cooled in recent months.
Rahman has stated that future engagement with India must be based on “mutual respect and mutual understanding,” suggesting that diplomatic recalibration will depend on actions from both sides.
India, Japan, Indonesia Hold Trilateral Naval Exercise
The Indian Navy conducted a trilateral maritime exercise in the Andaman Sea alongside naval forces from Japan and Indonesia. The exercise aimed to strengthen operational coordination, improve interoperability, and enhance maritime security cooperation.
The drills focused on joint manoeuvres, communication coordination, and operational preparedness to ensure a secure and stable Indo-Pacific region.
Earlier, the Indian Navy assumed command of Combined Task Force 154 under the Combined Maritime Forces (CMF), a multinational maritime partnership comprising 47 nations. Established in May 2023, CTF 154 focuses on training and capacity building to improve maritime security across the Middle East and surrounding waters. India’s leadership of the task force reflects growing international confidence in its naval expertise and its expanding role as a preferred security partner in the region.
