Indian Navy to Commission Anjadip Under ASW-SWC Project

The Indian Navy is set to strengthen its coastal defence and anti-submarine capabilities with the commissioning of INS Anjadip, the third vessel under the Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft (ASW-SWC) programme. The warship will be inducted into the Eastern Naval Command at Chennai on 27 February 2026.

The ASW-SWC project represents a significant milestone in India’s journey towards defence self-reliance under the ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ initiative. The project showcases indigenous expertise in naval design and shipbuilding.

INS Anjadip has been specifically developed for anti-submarine operations in shallow coastal waters. Often referred to as a “Dolphin Hunter,” the vessel is equipped with advanced indigenous systems including the Hull Mounted Sonar (HMS) Abhay. It also carries lightweight torpedoes and anti-submarine rockets to detect, track, and neutralize underwater threats.

Beyond its primary ASW role, the 77-metre-long warship is capable of undertaking coastal surveillance, low-intensity maritime operations, and search-and-rescue missions. The ship uses a water-jet propulsion system, enabling speeds up to 25 knots for rapid deployment and sustained maritime operations.

India Unveils First Comprehensive Counter-Terrorism Policy – PRAHAAR

The Union Ministry of Home Affairs has introduced India’s first consolidated National Counter-Terrorism Policy and Strategy, named PRAHAAR. This framework lays out a structured approach to preventing, responding to, and mitigating terrorism in all its forms.

PRAHAAR emphasizes intelligence-driven operations, coordination among multiple agencies, adherence to the rule of law, and protection of human rights. It also highlights international cooperation and community resilience as essential pillars of counter-terrorism.

Key Objectives of PRAHAAR:

  • Prevent terror attacks and safeguard national interests.
  • Ensure coordinated and proportionate responses to threats.
  • Enhance synergy between central, state, and local agencies.
  • Operate strictly within constitutional and human rights frameworks.
  • Counter radicalization and extremist ideologies.
  • Align international cooperation with India’s strategic priorities.
  • Promote societal recovery and resilience through a whole-of-society approach.

The strategy adopts a multi-layered system integrating intelligence, operational readiness, legal tools, technology, and public engagement to tackle both domestic and cross-border terrorism.

Indian Air Force Grounds Tejas Fleet for Safety Checks

The Indian Air Force (IAF) has temporarily grounded its fleet of approximately 30 single-seat Tejas light combat aircraft following a runway overshoot incident earlier this month.

The incident reportedly occurred on 7 February when one of the aircraft experienced a suspected brake malfunction while returning from a training sortie. The pilot ejected safely and was unharmed.

As a precautionary measure, the IAF ordered comprehensive technical inspections across the fleet to rule out systemic issues. Such fleet-wide evaluations are standard protocol when potential technical faults are identified.

However, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), the manufacturer of Tejas, clarified that the aircraft did not crash and described the occurrence as a minor ground incident, disputing reports of major structural damage.

Tejas is an indigenously developed single-engine, multi-role light combat aircraft designed for air defence, strike missions, and maritime reconnaissance operations.

Operation Trashi: Army Eliminates Terror Group in Chenab Valley

After nearly a year-long counter-terror operation, Indian security forces successfully neutralized a seven-member terrorist group operating in the Chenab Valley region.

The final phase of Operation Trashi concluded on 22 February when three terrorists, including a senior Jaish-e-Mohammed commander, were eliminated. The group had reportedly been active in the region since May 2024.

The mission involved sustained operations in challenging mountainous terrain, dense forests, and extreme weather conditions. Security personnel remained deployed in the area for over 300 days, facing repeated encounters as militants attempted to evade capture.

The Indian Army’s White Knight Corps led the operation in coordination with local police units and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). Local intelligence support and cooperation from residents played a vital role in the mission’s success.

India and Israel to Renew Security Cooperation Pact

India and Israel are expected to renew their bilateral security cooperation agreement amid evolving geopolitical dynamics in West Asia.

The renewal discussions coincide with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s upcoming visit to Israel. Both nations have maintained close defence and counter-terrorism collaboration over the years.

The renewed engagement is seen within the broader context of emerging strategic alignments in West Asia involving India, Israel, the UAE, Greece, and Cyprus. The evolving partnerships reflect shifting regional equations and shared interests in stability, security, and technological cooperation.

This strategic convergence underscores India’s expanding diplomatic and defence outreach in the region amid changing geopolitical realities.
