Launch of Naval Anti-Ship Missile – Short Range (NASM-SR)
India achieved a major technological breakthrough with the successful maiden salvo launch of the Naval Anti-Ship Missile–Short Range (NASM-SR). Developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation in collaboration with the Indian Navy, the missile was launched from a naval helicopter platform off the Bay of Bengal coast near Odisha.
What makes this trial particularly significant is that two missiles were fired in quick succession from the same helicopter—demonstrating advanced operational capability. The NASM-SR is equipped with cutting-edge indigenous systems, including a fibre-optic gyroscope-based navigation system, advanced avionics, and a high-bandwidth data link.
The missile has been developed primarily by Research Centre Imarat, along with contributions from multiple DRDO laboratories across India. This success strengthens India’s maritime strike capability and reinforces its commitment to indigenous defence innovation.
Operation Netra 1.0: High-Altitude Medical Outreach
In a remarkable humanitarian initiative, the Indian Army conducted a four-day advanced eye care camp titled Op Netra 1.0 at the 153 General Hospital in Leh.
The initiative screened around 950 patients from remote regions of Ladakh, including difficult terrains such as Chushul, Hanle, and Zanskar. This effort highlights the Army’s commitment not just to national security but also to civilian welfare in challenging environments.
A notable feature of the operation was the launch of the indigenously developed Op Netra App, aimed at improving patient management and healthcare delivery in remote areas. The mission stands as a strong example of civil-military cooperation and medical innovation.
India–Italy Defence Cooperation Strengthens
India and Italy have taken a significant step forward in defence relations. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh met his Italian counterpart Guido Crosetto in New Delhi, where both sides reaffirmed their strategic partnership.
During the meeting, the two nations exchanged a Bilateral Military Cooperation Plan for 2026–27, outlining future engagements between their armed forces. Discussions also focused on expanding defence industrial collaboration under India’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative.
Both countries emphasized their shared maritime interests and cooperation in information exchange through the Information Fusion Centre–Indian Ocean Region. This partnership reflects a growing alignment between two historic maritime nations.
Agni-VI Missile: Awaiting Government Approval
India is preparing for the next leap in its strategic missile capabilities with the proposed Agni-VI intercontinental ballistic missile. According to DRDO Chairman Samir V Kamat, the organization is fully ready to proceed once government approval is granted.
The Agni-VI is expected to surpass existing missiles in the Agni series in terms of range and technological sophistication. Meanwhile, India’s hypersonic missile programs—including glide and cruise variants—are also progressing rapidly, with early trials anticipated soon.
These advancements signal India’s growing expertise in next-generation missile technologies and strategic deterrence.
Indigenous 155mm Artillery Shell Manufacturing Breakthrough
In a significant step toward defence self-reliance, Electro Pneumatics and Hydraulics (India) Pvt Ltd has commissioned India’s first fully indigenous 155mm artillery shell forging line.
This state-of-the-art facility integrates advanced manufacturing processes such as cabbaging, piercing, and drawing into a single press system, improving efficiency and ensuring consistent quality. The development reduces India’s dependence on foreign technology and strengthens its ammunition production capabilities.
The initiative aligns closely with the Aatmanirbhar Bharat vision and reflects India’s expanding industrial strength in precision engineering and defence production.
