Defence Ministry Issues RFP for AMCA Project
The Ministry of Defence has issued the Request for Proposal (RFP) for the ambitious indigenous fifth-generation Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) programme. The shortlisted bidders for the mega project include the Larsen & Toubro–Bharat Electronics Limited consortium, Tata Advanced Systems, and Bharat Forge–BEML.
The AMCA project represents a major milestone in India’s drive toward self-reliance in defence manufacturing under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative. In 2025, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh approved the AMCA Programme Execution Model, which allows equal participation opportunities for both public and private sector companies on a competitive basis.
The Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA) will supervise the execution of the programme through industry partnerships. The total estimated cost of the AMCA programme is approximately ₹15,000 crore.
A key component of the project is the establishment of the Core Integration & Flight Testing Centre under ADA, an organisation associated with the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). The facility is being developed at a cost of nearly ₹2,000 crore.
Earlier, during Aero India 2025, a full-scale model of India’s first 5.5-generation stealth fighter aircraft was showcased with advanced stealth and combat features.
Amit Shah Reviews Security Preparedness in Bikaner
Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired a high-level security review meeting in Bikaner, Rajasthan, to evaluate issues concerning districts located along the Indo-Pakistan border.
The meeting focused on improving border management through stronger coordination between the central security agencies and the state government. Authorities decided to develop a comprehensive 360-degree security framework for each border district involving local citizens, administrative machinery, and security forces.
Amit Shah emphasized strict implementation of a zero-tolerance policy against illegal constructions within 15 kilometres of the international border. He directed officials to remove all unauthorized structures in sensitive border areas.
The meeting also highlighted the need for coordinated efforts among the Border Security Force (BSF), Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), and state authorities to tackle infiltration, drug trafficking, terror financing, illegal encroachments, and other cross-border crimes.
District Magistrates were instructed to strengthen financial monitoring, verify business establishments, track shell companies and mule bank accounts, identify fake Aadhaar cards, and curb smuggling activities.
Government Reviews Availability of Essential Commodities
The Informal Group of Ministers (IGoM) on West Asia, headed by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, reviewed the evolving regional situation and India’s preparedness during its sixth meeting held in New Delhi.
The group assessed the availability of essential commodities and the resilience of national supply chains. Rajnath Singh assured citizens that there is no shortage of fuel or essential items and urged people to avoid panic buying of petrol, diesel, and LPG.
Officials informed the meeting that India’s petroleum supply remains stable. India currently possesses a refining capacity of 258.1 million tonnes per annum, which exceeds domestic demand. The country also exports significant quantities of petroleum products every year.
The meeting further reviewed fertilizer availability for the Kharif 2026 season. Authorities stated that fertilizer stocks are currently comfortable, with more than half of the assessed requirement already available, which is considerably higher than normal preparedness levels.
Indian Coast Guard Seizes Cocaine Worth ₹1150 Crore
The Indian Coast Guard (ICG), in coordination with the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) Gujarat, successfully conducted a major anti-smuggling operation off the Mundra coast in Gujarat.
During the operation conducted between May 25 and 26, 2026, authorities seized around 115 kilograms of cocaine with an estimated international market value of approximately ₹1150 crore.
The operation was launched based on specific intelligence inputs shared by ATS Gujarat. Coast Guard interceptor boats, carrying ATS personnel onboard, carried out extensive search operations in the Mundra anchorage area.
Upon inspection, officials recovered 115 packets containing white powder that tested positive for cocaine. Each packet weighed approximately one kilogram.
This operation marked the 15th successful joint anti-narcotics mission conducted by the ICG and ATS Gujarat in the last five years, demonstrating India’s commitment toward maritime security and the vision of a “Nasha Mukt Bharat”.
DRDO Achieves Breakthrough in Gallium Nitride Chip Technology
India has achieved a major technological milestone by becoming one of only seven countries capable of developing Gallium Nitride (GaN) semiconductor technology.
The breakthrough was achieved by scientists of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) under the leadership of Dr. Meena Mishra. The development significantly strengthens India’s capabilities in advanced radar systems and electronic warfare technologies.
GaN semiconductors are considered superior to traditional silicon and Gallium Arsenide (GaAs) chips because they can operate at higher frequencies, voltages, and temperatures. These qualities make them essential for next-generation fighter aircraft, radar systems, and defence communication technologies.
The indigenous GaN Monolithic Microwave Integrated Circuits (MMICs) were developed at DRDO’s Solid State Physics Laboratory in Delhi with support from facilities in Hyderabad. Prototype devices were successfully built and tested domestically without foreign technology transfer.
The achievement gained further significance because India was earlier denied access to GaN technology during the Rafale fighter aircraft deal with France. This motivated Indian scientists to develop the technology independently.
The successful development of GaN technology will help India enhance air surveillance systems, improve radar efficiency, and reduce dependence on foreign defence suppliers.
L&T Completes High Altitude VTOL UAV Flight Trials
Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has successfully completed Phase-1 flight trials of its High Altitude Vertical Take-Off and Landing (VTOL) Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV).
The UAV has been specifically designed for operations in mountainous and high-altitude regions where conventional aircraft face operational challenges.
New footage released by the company demonstrated the UAV’s ability to maintain stable hovering capabilities under changing wind conditions at high altitudes. The platform also features a modular payload bay capable of carrying electro-optical sensors, communication equipment, and lightweight logistics supplies.
The UAV’s adaptability makes it suitable for surveillance operations, communication support, and tactical resupply missions in difficult terrain.
The successful completion of the first phase of trials marks an important advancement in India’s indigenous drone and aerospace capabilities, further strengthening the country’s defence innovation ecosystem.
