Mahesh Dixit Becomes New Director of the Intelligence Bureau
The Government of India has appointed Mahesh Dixit as the next Director of the Intelligence Bureau (IB). The decision was approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Mahesh Dixit, a 1993-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer from the Andhra Pradesh cadre, will officially assume office on 30 June 2026, replacing Tapan Kumar Deka.
Before this appointment, Dixit was serving as the Special Director of the Intelligence Bureau. His tenure as IB Director will be two years from the date he takes charge or until further government orders, whichever comes first. The appointment also includes the necessary extension of service under the provisions of the All India Services Rules.
