Sanjeev Jain Appointed India’s Ambassador to North Korea
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has appointed Sanjeev Jain, a 2008-batch Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer, as India’s next Ambassador to the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK), commonly known as North Korea.
Before this appointment, Sanjeev Jain was serving as India’s Ambassador to Cabo Verde. He is expected to assume his new diplomatic responsibilities shortly.

Eastern India Records Strong Growth in GI Registrations
India witnessed remarkable growth in Geographical Indication (GI) registrations during the 2025–26 financial year, with 125 new GI tags being granted across the country. This increased the total number of registered GI products in India to 822.
Among all states, Madhya Pradesh secured the highest number of new GI registrations with 26, followed by West Bengal with 24. Eastern states such as West Bengal and Jharkhand emerged as major contributors in protecting traditional crafts, agricultural products, indigenous knowledge, and cultural heritage.
Importance of GI Tags
Geographical Indications are intellectual property rights granted to products that possess unique qualities, reputation, or characteristics because of their geographical origin.
GI registration helps to:
