Eligibility Criteria

Nationality
Candidates must be:

• Citizens of India, or
• Subjects of Nepal, or
• Persons of Indian origin who migrated from specified countries (Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia, Vietnam) with the intention of permanent settlement in India, supported by a certificate of eligibility issued by the Government of India (not required for Gorkha subjects of Nepal).

Age Limit

• General Category: 20 to 27 years as on 01 April 2027 (born between 01 April 2000 and 31 March 2007, both days inclusive).
• Widows of Indian Armed Forces Defence Personnel who Died in Harness: Maximum 35 years as on 01 April 2027 (for both Tech and Non-Tech entries).

Marital Status
Only unmarried female candidates are eligible. Marriage during training is strictly prohibited and results in discharge with full recovery of government expenditure.

Educational Qualification

• Candidates must possess (or be in the final year of) a B.E./B.Tech degree in one of the notified Engineering streams or their AICTE-approved equivalent streams.
• Final-year candidates must submit proof of passing the Engineering Degree Examination along with all semester/year marksheets by 01 April 2027 and produce the degree certificate within 12 weeks of training commencement. They will be inducted on an additional bond basis for recovery of training costs, stipend, and pay & allowances if they fail to produce the certificate.
• Candidates whose final-year/semester results are declared after 01 April 2027 are not eligible.
• Strict Stream Match Requirement: The Engineering stream nomenclature on the degree parchment/marksheet must exactly match the stream mentioned in the online application. Any mismatch leads to immediate cancellation of candidature.
• Degrees must be from universities/institutions recognised under relevant Acts (UGC, IIT, AICTE, NITSER, IIIT, etc.). Foreign degrees are not accepted.
• For widows (Tech entry): B.E./B.Tech in any Engineering stream (relaxed eligibility).

Vacancies are tentative and may be re-appropriated based on organisational requirements. Only one entry/discipline per candidate is permitted.

Selection Procedure

1. Shortlisting: Applications are shortlisted stream-wise based on cumulative percentage of marks up to the final semester/year (or applicable semesters for final-year candidates) against a vacancy-to-call-up ratio decided by the Directorate General of Recruiting. Cut-off marks will be published in the first week of September 2026.
2. SSB Interview: Shortlisted candidates appear at one of the Selection Centres (Prayagraj, Bhopal, Bengaluru, or Jalandhar). Two-stage selection process (Stage-1 screening on the same day for non-qualifiers). Five-day duration. Call-up letters issued via registered email and SMS only.

Training and Service Conditions

• Location: Officers Training Academy, Gaya, Bihar.
• Duration: Approximately 46 weeks (excluding term break); overall period April 2027–March 2028.
• Stipend: ₹56,100 per month during training.
• Academic Award: Post Graduate Diploma in Military Studies & Defence Management from Magadh University, Bodh Gaya (upon successful completion).
• Type of Commission: Short Service Commission (Technical) as Lieutenant on probation. Confirmed on successful completion of training. One-year ante-date seniority granted to Engineering graduates (not applicable to SSC Non-Tech widows).

• Special provisions for release after completion of 5 years of service (on merits, for non-specialised course officers).

Pay, Allowances and Benefits on Commissioning

• Rank on Commissioning: Lieutenant (Level-10: ₹56,100 – 1,77,500).
• Military Service Pay (MSP): ₹15,500 per month (fixed) up to Brigadier rank.
• Technical Allowance: Tier-I ₹3,000 or Tier-II ₹4,500 per month (as applicable).
• Other Allowances: Dearness Allowance, Para Reserve Allowance, Field Area/Hardship/Risk allowances (varying by location and risk category, e.g., Siachen, High Altitude, CI Ops, Flying, Special Forces, etc.), Dress Allowance (₹20,000 per year), Ration in Kind, Transport Allowance (TPTA), Children Education Allowance (₹2,250 per month per child for two eldest), Hostel Subsidy, and more.
