Kuwait Explores Comprehensive Defence Pact with Pakistan
Kuwait is reportedly holding discussions with Pakistan to establish a comprehensive defence partnership amid rising security concerns in the Persian Gulf. The move comes against the backdrop of renewed regional tensions following recent attacks on Gulf infrastructure linked to the ongoing confrontation between the United States and Iran.
According to reports, the proposed agreement goes beyond existing military cooperation and includes the possible deployment of Pakistani troops, fighter aircraft, drones, and air defence systems in Kuwait. The partnership is also expected to strengthen defence collaboration while promoting energy cooperation and investment opportunities between the two countries.
Pakistan and Kuwait have maintained limited military ties since 2023, primarily through joint military exercises and training programmes. The proposed pact would significantly expand this relationship, enhancing Kuwait’s defence preparedness while providing Pakistan with greater strategic and economic cooperation.
The initiative is believed to have gained momentum after Saudi Arabia reportedly encouraged Kuwait to strengthen defence arrangements in response to the evolving security situation in the Gulf region. If finalised, the agreement would mark an important development in regional defence cooperation and collective security.
United States and Bangladesh Launch Tiger Lightning 26 Military Exercise
The United States Army and the Bangladesh Armed Forces have commenced the Tiger Lightning 26 bilateral military exercise to enhance defence cooperation and operational coordination between the two nations.
The exercise involves participation from more than 160 military personnel representing both countries. It is designed to improve interoperability through realistic training in challenging operational environments.
The primary focus areas of Tiger Lightning 26 include jungle warfare, counter-terrorism operations, and tactical combat casualty care. These activities enable troops from both countries to exchange operational experiences, strengthen combat readiness, and improve coordination during joint missions.
The exercise forms part of the United States Army Pacific’s Theatre Army Campaign Plan, which aims to deepen defence partnerships and strengthen regional security cooperation across the Indo-Pacific.
Iran Condemns US Strike on Chabahar Port Facility
The Iranian Embassy in India has strongly criticised the recent United States military strike on Shahid Kalantari Port at Chabahar, describing the attack as a violation of international law and the United Nations Charter.
According to the embassy, the strike targeted civilian and economic infrastructure and therefore breached international legal obligations concerning the protection of non-military assets during armed conflicts. Iran termed the action a serious escalation that undermines established international norms.
The condemnation followed confirmation by the United States Central Command (CENTCOM) that it had destroyed a surveillance tower at Chabahar Port. According to CENTCOM, the installation formed part of a maritime surveillance network operated by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) to monitor commercial shipping in the Gulf of Oman and the Strait of Hormuz.
The incident has further intensified tensions in the region, with concerns that any disruption around Chabahar and the Strait of Hormuz could affect global maritime trade and energy supplies.
Lokesh Machines Secures ₹58.21 Crore Defence Contract from Indian Army
Lokesh Machines Limited, a Hyderabad-based engineering company, has received a ₹58.21 crore contract from the Indian Army to supply modification kits for FN MAG 7.62×51 mm Medium Machine Guns.
The contract has been awarded by the Master General Sustenance Branch under the Integrated Headquarters of the Ministry of Defence (Army). The modification kits are intended to enhance the operational efficiency and performance of one of the Indian Army’s widely used medium machine guns.
The order represents a significant milestone for Lokesh Machines as it expands its presence in India’s defence manufacturing sector. It also supports the Government of India’s ‘Make in India’ and Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiatives, which encourage greater participation of private companies in indigenous defence production.
The contract highlights the growing role of Indian private industry in manufacturing advanced defence equipment through precision engineering and high-quality production standards.
Indian Air Force Participates in Exercise Pitch Black 2026
The Indian Air Force (IAF) is participating in Exercise Pitch Black 2026, the premier multinational air combat exercise organised by the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) at RAAF Base Darwin, Australia. The exercise is being conducted from 20 July to 7 August 2026.
The Indian contingent includes Rafale multirole fighter aircraft, supported by C-17 Globemaster III strategic transport aircraft and IL-78 Air-to-Air Refuelling aircraft. The team comprises pilots, engineers, technicians, air traffic controllers, and other specialists.
Exercise Pitch Black derives its name from its emphasis on night-flying operations over the sparsely populated regions of northern Australia. It is one of the world’s largest multinational air combat exercises and provides participating nations with an opportunity to conduct complex large-force employment missions in a realistic operational environment.
The exercise aims to improve multinational interoperability, validate expeditionary air operations, strengthen professional military partnerships, and exchange best operational practices. India has previously participated in the 2018, 2022, and 2024 editions, reflecting its continued commitment to strengthening defence cooperation and promoting security across the Indo-Pacific region.
