A domestic dispute in Ahmedabad’s Naroda area ended in the death of 39-year-old former Indian Army personnel Dilip Kharadi, who was allegedly stabbed by his wife late on Thursday night, November 5–6, 2026. Police have arrested 34-year-old Nirmala Kharadi, also known as Nirmalaben, and are investigating the circumstances of the incident.
Dispute at the couple’s home
Kharadi had left the Army and was employed as a contractual driver with the Gujarat Mineral Development Corporation (GMDC). He lived with his wife and their two children at Naroda Smart City-2. Police said the couple had frequently argued over the past year about household matters, food preferences, finances and domestic responsibilities.
According to police accounts, the argument began after Kharadi returned home and sat down for dinner. He reportedly questioned or expressed dissatisfaction with a vegetable curry his wife had prepared. The disagreement escalated into a heated exchange involving mutual abuse.
Reports say the argument became physical, with Kharadi allegedly assaulting his wife. Nirmala then went into the kitchen and took a knife described as a vegetable-cutting knife. She allegedly stabbed him on the left side of his chest, above the heart. Some accounts also mention injuries to his right cheek, right upper arm and thumbs.
Police investigation
Kharadi suffered fatal injuries. In one account from police and family sources, Nirmala called her brother-in-law, Mukesh, told him about the stabbing and said she was taking her husband to hospital. Relatives went to Shalby Hospital, where Kharadi was declared dead. Other reports say he died at the scene or was declared dead on arrival after being transported by his wife. Naroda Police Inspector B.M. Katariya confirmed that the stabbing caused serious chest injuries leading to his death.

Police traced and arrested Nirmala within hours on Friday, using CCTV footage from the area and intelligence inputs. A case has been registered at Naroda police station under Section 103(1) (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, along with relevant provisions of the Gujarat Police Act.
Senior officers, including VN Yadav, said recurring domestic disputes formed the backdrop to the incident. Investigators are questioning the accused and examining the sequence of events, including the role of longstanding financial and household tensions.
