India Gifts Dornier Aircraft To Strengthen Maritime Security Of Sri Lanka
- In a bid to strengthen the maritime security of the island nation, India gifted a Dornier Maritime Reconnaissance aircraft to Sri Lanka on Monday at a special event held in Sri Lanka Air Force Base, Katunayake.
- Navy and Air Force personnel of Sri Lanka who received training in India for close to four months shall operate the aircraft. They will also receive operational support from their Indian counterparts.
- The aircraft would act as a force multiplier, enabling Sri Lanka to tackle multiple challenges such as human and drug trafficking, smuggling and other organized forms of crime in its coastal waters more effectively.
- Gifting of Dornier aircraft underscores the cooperation between the two maritime neighbours in the defence and security spheres. Such cooperation is envisaged to add further capability and capacity to Sri Lanka and is in line with the vision of Security and Growth for All in the Region (SAGAR).
INS Sumedha Hoisted ‘Tiranga’, Observe 75th Independence Day In Australia
- Indian Navy’s INS Sumedha has docked at Perth in Australia to celebrate India’s 76th Independence Day on Monday. As part of the Indian Navy’s Operational Deployment, INS Sumedha has been deployed to the South-Eastern Indian Ocean.
- INS Sumedha is an indigenously built Naval Offshore Patrol Vessel deployed for multiple roles independently and in support of Fleet Operations. She is part of the Indian Navy’s Eastern Fleet based at Visakhapatnam.
- The visit of INS Sumedha underscores India’s vision of SAGAR (Security and Growth for All in the Region) and shared objectives of the two countries towards ensuring good order in the maritime domain and the Indian Navy’s commitment to building bridges of friendship and strengthening cooperation with friendly maritime nations. It is in consonance with Joint Guidance provided by the Chiefs of both the navies in August 2021 and is aligned to the ‘2020 Comprehensive Strategic Partnership’ between the two nations.
- It aims to further consolidate shared commitment to regional and global security challenges promoting peace, security and stability in the Indo-Pacific region. IAF To Soon Get 5th Gen Advanced Fighter Jet AMCA, Design Revealed
- India will soon have a combat aircraft rivalling Lockheed Martin’s F-22 Raptor and F-35 Lightning II of the United States of America, China’s Chengdu J-20 and Russian Sukhoi Su-57. Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Rakesh Kumar Singh Bhadauria on Tuesday announced that the development of 5th Generation advanced multi-role combat aircraft has been launched in a massive boost to the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) programme.
- The supersonic AMCA is being developed by the Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA) and Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL). The all-weather multirole AMCA is likely to have twin-engines with stealth features. It will in all probability be single-seater combat aircraft.
- As seen in the image, the prime features are the Diverterless Supersonic Inlet (DSI) and a 3D ‘bump’ that prevent radar waves from bouncing off the engine blades/turbines, making it a Stealth jet. The jet is seen sporting an Infrared Search and Track (IRST) above the nose cone along with an Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) radar, used to enhance medium and long-range detection of targets.
- The AMCA will be IAF’s backbone in the coming decades, and the Indian Air Force is not looking to induct a foreign-made 5th Gen jet till the AMCA is made. A naval version of the 5th Generation fighter will also be developed for Indian Navy. The aircraft will have a high degree of stealth, ability to carry weapons internally as well as externally, internal fuel capacity, super cruise and perform the role of both air-to-air to air-to-ground attacks. With the AMCA will primarily engage targets at beyond visual range, it will also have a powerful thrust vectoring engine for super manoeuvrability for better dogfighting capabilities.
Indian Flag Unfurled 30 Kilometres Above Earth
- To mark India’s 76th Independence Day, the Indian flag was unfurled about 30 km above the earth. The ‘tricolour’ was sent to an altitude of 1,06,000 feet above the planet on a hot air balloon by a firm called Space Kidz India as part of the government’s Har Ghar Tiranga campaign.
- Space Kidz India is an organization creating “young scientists for the country and spreading awareness among children for a borderless world.” Space Kidz India recently launched a satellite called –AzadiSAT–into Low Earth Orbit. It was developed by 750 girl students from across India to mark the 75 years of Independence.
- As India celebrates its Independence Day, messages have been pouring in from space, astronaut Samantha Cristoforetti, who is living and working on the International Space Station, in a video message said it is a pleasure to congratulate India on 75 years of Independence and that for decades international agencies have worked together with the Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro) on many space and science missions.
- Meanwhile, Indian-American astronaut Raja Chari also congratulated India and said “Nasa and Isro have a long history of cooperation, going back to early days of space age when Nasa worked with ISRO on sounding rockets in India. The cooperation continues today as we work on joint space and Earth science missions.”
