Union Minister Jitendra Singh stated on Monday that reclaiming Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoK) and incorporating it into India is high on the government’s priority list. In a meeting with students and social groups of Jammu and Kashmir origin in London, he stated that after Prime Minister Narendra Modi took office, he sought to “correct several anomalies of the past that were the legacy of successive governments since 1947”.
Govt is Focused on Reclaiming PoK
Mr. Singh, who is on an official visit to the United Kingdom, stated that the repeal of Article 370 has given the people of Jammu and Kashmir a sense of belonging and equal rights with the rest of the country. The central government repealed the provision that granted special status to the former state of Jammu and Kashmir in 2019 and divided it into the Union territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
According to the minister of state for personnel, Prime Minister Modi will be remembered for bringing “justice to refugees from Pakistan settled in Jammu and Kashmir, as well as to the daughters of Jammu and Kashmir who were deprived of their constitutional rights of citizenship and property ownership.” He stated that as a result of Prime Minister Modi’s corrective steps, India’s prestige has risen globally, and there is no doubt about India’s view on Jammu and Kashmir, which is that it is a vital component of the Indian Union.

“If only the then-prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru had allowed the then-home minister Sardar Patel to handle Jammu and Kashmir in the same manner as he was handling other princely states of India, today the part of Jammu and Kashmir that is illegally occupied by Pakistan would have been a part of India and the issue of PoJK would never have risen,” the minister said, according to an official statement.
“However, he stated, it is very much on the agenda of the government led by Prime Minister Modi and the BJP as a political party to reclaim the illegally occupied PoK from Pakistan’s control and return it to India,” the statement said.
India is Firm on Its Stand
Various groups that interacted with Mr. Singh informed him of their recent activities to unite groups of people of Indian origin against anti-India forces, according to the statement. The minister advised them that the moment had come to develop “our own narrative so that false narratives created by our adversaries do not gain the upper hand.” The world is ready to listen to India’s point of view under Prime Minister Modi, and the message that no one can undermine or harm India’s integrity and sovereignty should be heard loud and clear across all sections, he said.
The discussion, which lasted about an hour, included persons from various fields of work and from different parts of Jammu and Kashmir. Representatives from the Jammu and Kashmir Study Centre’s London branch, which has its headquarters in New Delhi, were also present at the conference. According to the statement, there were also members of Jammu and Kashmir Dogra organizations and Kashmiri Pandit activist groups. Mr. Singh praised them for their contributions to correcting the false narrative about India, particularly in the context of Jammu and Kashmir, and for standing up to the challenge of anti-India elements in the UK, according to the statement.
