Nobel Prize 2023 In Medicine or Physiology

  • Katalin Karikó and Drew Weissman “for their discoveries concerning nucleoside base modifications that enabled the development of effective mRNA vaccines against COVID-19”.
  • The Nobel Assembly at Karolinska Institute has decided to award the 2023 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine.
  • The discoveries by the two Nobel Laureates were critical for developing effective mRNA vaccines against COVID-19 during the pandemic that began in early 2020.
  • Through their groundbreaking findings, which have fundamentally changed our understanding of how mRNA interacts with our immune system.
  • The laureates contributed to the unprecedented rate of vaccine development during one of the greatest threats to human health in modern times.

E-Auction of mementos

  • E-Auction of mementos received by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has opened for general public.
  • The bids will continue till 31st of October. The money collected from this auction will be donated to the Namami Gange Project to revitalize the sacred Ganges River.
  • Mementos ranging from 100 rupees to 65 lakh rupees are available for e-auction in this 5th edition of the auction.
  • An exhibition of such mementos has been organized at the National Gallery of Modern Art in New Delhi.
  • It features over 150 remarkable mementos, providing a glimpse into the cultural vibrancy of the nation. This exhibition celebrates the spirit of generosity, goodwill, and the art of meaningful gifting.

J&K Achieved 100% Villages ODF Plus Status

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi has J&K for achieving 100% villages Open Defecation Free (ODF) Plus status in the Model category under Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen) phase-2.
  • As per official criteria, when a village has achieved a condition where it is visually clean with minimal litter and stagnant water, apart from solid and liquid waste management and adequate Information, Education and Communication activities, it is declared as ODF-plus Model.
  • Mr Modi said, this is a monumental step in the journey towards a cleaner and healthier India.
  • In a social media post, he said the Union Territory has attained new heights in development and growth after the abrogation of Article 370.
  • He added that the schemes implemented by the Central Government are now being seamlessly extended to the nook and corners of Jammu and Kashmir.
  • The Minister said people across the nation and those living in Jammu and Kashmir have experienced the transformative change the region has undergone.

  • Google Doodle pays tribute to the Appalachian Trail, the longest hiking-only footpath in the world.
  • This iconic trail has captivated the hearts of adventurers, nature enthusiasts, and explorers for nearly a century.
  • The Appalachian Trail is an awe-inspiring 2,193-mile footpath that traverses 14 U.S. states. It winds its way along the crests and valleys of the Appalachian Mountain Range, taking hikers on a captivating journey.
  •  The trail’s southern terminus begins at Springer Mountain, Georgia, and stretches all the way north to its grand finale at Katahdin, Maine.

Lt General Raghu Srinivasan

  • Lieutenant General Raghu Srinivasan assumed the role of the 28th Director General (DG) of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) on Saturday.
  • This transition follows the superannuation of Lt Gen Rajeev Chaudhry.
  • The Border Roads Organisation was established on May 7, 1960, with the primary objective of securing India’s borders through the development of infrastructure in the remote regions of the north and northeast.

Indian Pavilion at ADIPEC 2023

  • The Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference (ADIPEC 2023) kicked off at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre.
  • The event, which runs until October 5th, is expected to attract more than 160,000 attendees from 164 countries for its biggest edition ever.
  • ADIPEC 2023 is held under the theme of “Decarbonising Faster Together.” and brings together the global energy industry to advance decarbonizing today’s energy system and collaborate on tomorrow’s energy system.
  • The exhibition features a rich programme that covers energy-related technology, innovation, collaboration, and digitalization.
  • Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Hardeep Singh Puri inaugurated the India pavillion at ADIPEC 2023.
  • This year, ADIPEC also includes four specialised areas that facilitate cross-sector collaboration and game-changing partnerships – Decarbonisation Accelerator, Maritime and Logistics Zone, Digitalisation in Energy Zone, Manufacturing, Industrialisation Exhibition and Conference.

Vice President Of Dominican Republic To Visit India

  • Vice President of The Dominican Republic, Raquel Peña Rodríguez will visit India from October 3-5.
  • This will be the first-ever visit of the Vice President of the Dominican Republic to India.
  • The visit is significant as it takes place at a time when India-Dominican Republic’s bilateral relationship is entering its 25th year.
  • The two countries established diplomatic relations on 04 May 1999, the MEA said in an official release.
  • She will hold discussions with Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar and other Indian dignitaries, and will also deliver a lecture on India- Dominican Republic relations at the Indian Council for World Affairs.
  • Dominican Republic is an important partner of India in the Latin America and Caribbean region.

World Road Congress

  • Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Shri Nitin Gadkari addressed the Ministerial Session at the 27th World Road Congress in Prague, Czech Republic, focusing on Road Safety.

  • Shri Gadkari emphasized adopting a holistic approach to minimize road crashes and fatalities by stakeholders at all levels. He reiterated Bharat’s special focus on spreading awareness to effect behavioral change and ensuring flawless enforcement of rules.
  • The Minister further apprised the gathering of the strides India has been taking in the field of automobile safety with flagship programs such as BHARAT NCAP and reiterated our commitment to achieving the global road safety targets set in the Stockholm Declaration.

  • In Asian Games 2023 in Hangzhou, Indian Table Tennis players Ayhika Mukherjee and Sutirtha Mukherjee picked up a historic bronze medal in the women’s doubles tournament.
  • the Indian men’s and women’s skating teams for secured bronze medals in the speed skating 3000m relay competition at the ongoing Asian Games in Hangzhou.

In women’s hurdle race, Jyothi Yarraji won silver after a contentious match.
